I have been very fortunate to meet so many people across the world who are thriving at everything they do. And one thing they all have in common as I have noticed is that they are involved in anything and everything that is going to help their community of others.

One thing I always advise people is that in all we do, we should remember we are human before anything else. Kindness should be a value we all have. Live with people peacefully, help them when you can and your life will be as easy as a flowing stream. I was lucky to grow up in a community where everyone was involved.

We lived like one big family and that helped me in so many ways. I learnt how to live with different kinds of people. What to say and what not to say and even how to be at the right place at the right time. Over the years , I have learnt the value and importance of people and if you ask me, not even money beats it.

You can have it all, the money , the fame and whatever. But if you don’t have people, your people who are by you all the time, life will just be another passing day for you. I have gotten the chance to serve my community and many others communities and the impact has been massive.

I didn’t get the opportunity to do that until I was in the university. I started to see life from a different view and I saw first hand that the life I’m living currently is a luxury to others. Once you come into contact with these things and have the experience, you see life in a whole new perspective. I can bet you there are kids who have never set foot in a village before or even a market. They live so lavish they don’t know the kind of life others are living. It’s good to live a good life but I believe it’s also important to have other experiences to balance.

Thankfully, I’ve had more than enough experiences to make me thrive anywhere I find myself. I know my way around people, I have my survival tips and all these are things I learnt on the ground, not in a classroom. The reality of life, I call it. Because community service has really really impacted my life more than I ever imagined. The impact has been massive as well as the growth, as shocking as it might sound to others. This is really something I want every young adult to explore at least once in their lifetime.

I believe an initiative that will help school children experience first hand how life is in the communities and the real world will be a great game changer. They will learn so much about life while adding that to the classroom knowledge they have. Life can be one way all the time, there has to be a balance and I believe this is the balance we need.
