I for one believe that students should as well partake in community services before graduating from secondary school, and I know you would want to understand why. School isn't just a place we go to sit to learn how to read and write, but the school is also a place to learn good morals and as well learn how to care for ourselves and the environments too. The only thing I would say here is, if a student wasn't able to finish what he/she is supposed to know or learn about community services it shouldn't mean that such a student should not graduate.

During my service year, I served as the president of m CDS Group (Environmental And Sanitation CDS Group), and for my one year o service I made sure to give back to the society. There are a lot of of programs that we organized, some were aimed at making the environment near and tidy, some were about we educating the market people on hygiene and their health, while most were directed at students, such as menstrual hygiene programs where we share pads, oral hygiene programmes where we shared toothpaste and toothbrushes, food hygiene awareness programs and a lot more. We did this in different schools, and I can say it was very helpful.

And sometimes this things don't always require money, the only thing needed at times is just our time, and the heart we're willing to give/put into it. And we did all of that in schools also because students will be able to learn, take it home and spread it, also because they can as well look into one thing or the other that they can begin to do in their schools, home, and the community at large.

And I would be one of the happiest people if such is ever made a part of the secondary school curriculum because I believe it will help students be more aware and responsible from a very young age. Little activities such as cleaning school environments, teaching them about hygiene, planting trees, and much more could be included and by s doing students would even learn way beyond just that, they will as well learn teamwork, patience, respect and all, while possibly discovering skills and interests in things they didn't know they have a thing for before.

And like I said earlier, we shouldn't because a student wasn't able to finish now say they wouldn't graduate, nope. And I'm saying that because a lot of things might want to contribute to that, some students may have health challenges that may hinder them from doing or participating in certain things, and it would be unfair to not make them graduate without considering why and the situation or circumstances that they're in. I say so because while serving, there's this fellow corp member who's physically handicapped, he rarely follows us to all of this programmes because of his health status and I'm sure there would be limit to things he would be able to do for himself too while he was still in school... What I'm saying is, some people's circumstances needs to be put into consideration. And so for students like that who may have certain difficulties, I feel the schools could provide some sort of alternatives for them too.

For me, it is a very good initiative if very well handled, as it will help build good character in students, help improve the living conditions of people and it will help our students to grow up into becoming better adults and not the type who need to be forced or cajoled into helping.
