Splinterlands: Riftwatchers Approach

I have now lost count on what Edition we now find ourselves in but it does not reduce the excitement of the Collectionist in me which love to open new packs and build a new deck! However, the evolution of the mechanics to get these packs and the economic unknowns continue to make it tough to decide on the approach to take for the Collection. This Edition is unique in a couple ways as the new Summoners will be Epic rarity which changes the dynamic in terms of the potential shifts of demand and supply which lend to price discovery differences from prior Editions. It will also be a lower print rate from Chaos Legion.

For the latest Editions, I have continued to chase a maxed out set of cards which I think is necessary as a player looking to be competitive in the higher Division. This is key to somewhat optimize potential rewards as the developers continue to say that the end goal should be for players to advance. Therefore, whether to max or not is not the question for me; instead, I need to decide if it will be regular or gold foil.

I was able to achieve a max gold foil deck for Chaos Legion but I did not even try to go for Legendaries given the price dynamics at the moment of the release. Prices have since dropped dramatically but I have not changed my mind. Summoners have also been a challenge for Chaos Legion so I am still on my way there but not done. Reward cards have been easy given the bot farm selling so quickly which was great for us Collectors. However, the remaining cards are still quite expensive if wanting to achieve it.

Therefore, my thought is to take a similar approach from Chaos Legion. I have bought 2,400 packs which should be enough to guarantee me a max regular foil set. Depending on luck, I should get a good way ahead in Gold Foil but the Epic Summoners will be the key in my opinion. I find myself gathering lose Crypto and have started to buy credits as I will also need to buy a good amount of potions. I will be short quite a bit to open at launch but I think that is a good thing as I will be forced to have patience.

For Chaos Legion, I was able to get potions easily so I opened almost immediately upon release. It was great to experience and not be too eager on waiting but it also led to impatience once I start to track my missing golf foils needed. Since I also had a good amount of DEC saved, I started to buy them immediately after which may me really pay very high prices. In fact, while I have not calculated it, I am sure that I am in the red with regards to the value of that Edition Collection at the moment.

Having to wait for more potions will allow me to wait and be patient before starting to buy gold foils in a hot market. I am sure that I will need more Epic Summoners no matter what so will be watching those cards carefully to buy them even before opening my packs. There will never be an excess of Summoners so I am ok with that sacrifice early on. It will definitely be interesting to see how the markets adjust given the external factors at play as well as it is clear that the bear market persists and the demand is less than before. However, supply will also be low in the short term.
