According to the dictates of patriarchy, there are many roles the genders play in society. This write-up, though, would focus on the main gender roles, the role of provider versus the role of a doer of chores/housekeeping.
We already know who does what according to the dictates of patriarchy. The man is supposed to be the provider while the woman is the one who stays at home and does most of the chores, cleans the house, cooks, does laundry, looks after the children, etc.
Usually, when people talk about these fundamental roles they are fond of downplaying the female roles. Men especially, downplay the female roles a lot by saying things like "I work, my wife does not work, she stays at home." They further downplay it by considering it to be not a big deal.
When people want to counter those who downplay the female gender roles they usually say things like: "why do you say your wife does not work, that she only stays at home? How about all the cooking and cleaning and laundry she does? Do you not consider that work? It is hard work and you better recognize that!" Generally they go further to talk about how difficult it can be.
Since the title of this post is "How the Major Female Gender Role is Nothing Compared to the Male Gender Role", you already know, the writeup is about to side with the male gender role and show how the female gender role is nothing when compared to the male gender role.
So, it's simple, the female role is nothing when compared with the male role because it is a role that can be carried out with easier and more readily available materials. The female role of housekeeper which is all about cleaning, cooking, and laundry can be done with easier and more readily available materials, and what are the materials? Your hands! And your simple day-to-day energy.
Do you feel like retorting that providing is also done by your hands and simple day-to-day energy? You would be right, just that it is not the complete story. To provide, your hands and day-to-day energy are not all you need, you also need a place to put those hands and day-to-day energy to work and a place to work is not always readily available.
Apart from a place to work you also need other different variables that are not always under your control and not always readily available. Like you need customers to come and buy (if you're into any form of sales), you need your seeds to yield fruits (both literally and figuratively. If you sow literal seeds into the soil as a farmer, all you need is not just your hands and energy, you also need everything that has to do with good yields to work for you. Things like environmental factors, genetics, etc. For figurative seeds, you need whatever money-making efforts you make to bring forth results.)
In a nutshell, achieving success and being able to provide does not only depend on your hands and day-to-day energy! Employment for example can be the hardest thing to get. You can have all it takes, work very hard but still be unable to provide because all the other factors that are not dependent on you refused to fall into place.
You can work really hard at planting on your farm but due to harsh environments, drought, pests, etc, you would not be able to provide later on. You can work really hard on your livestock but due to pests, diseases, bad genes, etc. You won't be able to provide. By the way, buying a farm can be the hardest thing to get.
When it comes to other means like offering skills (service for payment), we all know customers can be hard to come by a lot of times. Same for trading goods. I want to say more but it would be more of repetition; I think by now it's already clear that a lot of other factors other than your hands and energy are involved in fulfilling the male role.
But for the female role, all you need is your hands and energy when it comes to cleaning the house, cooking, and doing laundry. You can't have energy, hands, and willingness and still be unable to wash cook, or clean. Everyone can do it almost any time just the way you are. But not everyone can just get up and make money to provide just the way you are.
Go out and get 10 people (men or women), and tell them they have to provide you with some money for bills and feeding, not everyone would have the money to give you even if you ask them at gunpoint. But tell them they have to clean, cook and do laundry. All of them would be capable of doing that immediately or at least if you ask them at gunpoint would anyone be unable to dispose of those duties and die instead? No! That's for certain.
Further, you can pay someone to do chores for you but can you pay someone to make money for you? Can you hire someone to provide for you? That shows you the difficult/special position providing occupied.
This is certainly not to look down on any side but only to face the truth. Luckily for us, patriarchy is dying and gender roles are dying with it. This post is just for whoever wants to know more or argue on this matter, I've made it clear how both roles are not equal, the female one has nothing on the male at all! Shalom.
