Today, chance placed something in my path that feels like a sign. Today, during my evening walk as the sunlight began to tinge with orange, I came across it: a heliconia flower.
Yes, it's that exotic flower from the tropics, an intense red that seems to embrace the light, one of those that grow wild in forgotten corners but, when they appear, steal all the glances. It's not a common flower on every corner of Cuba, although it sometimes shows its beauty in neglected gardens or on the edges of rural roads, but seeing it today, here, right on the sidewalk where I sometimes pass every afternoon, stopped me in my tracks and gave me a moment of wonder.
I bent down to observe it better and its petals, like tongues of fire, seemed to whisper something ancient, something my grandmother would call "a good omen." They say the heliconia is not just any plant, but that it is a messenger of prosperity, good luck, and love that arrives without warning.
And I, who sometimes go so absorbed in my thoughts, so trapped in routine, received its message as a reminder that life always finds a way to surprise us and that the extraordinary can grow on the busiest sidewalk.
I took my phone and snapped a few photos, but I know that no image will fully capture what I felt at that moment, something like a deep connection to the simple things, to what our ancestors already knew and celebrated. It seemed the heliconia was telling me that cycles renew themselves, that after the storm there is always color, and that abundance is not always material, but sometimes takes the form of a petal and the smell of wet earth.
As I resumed my walk, I smiled because I know this flower did not appear by chance; it simply came to remind me that magic is in the details and that luck is also cultivated with an attentive eye.
Today I give thanks to that flower for crossing my path and for restoring my faith in the small daily miracles. It has been, in the midst of the city's hustle and bustle, an echo of that Cuban countryside we carry within, a whisper that the best is yet to come.

VERSIรN EN ESPAรOL
