Birthdays are one of the special occasions one gets excited to celebrate. Growing up, I always have simple celebrations, preparing just few foods on the table, and sharing them with close family and relatives. When I started earning on my own, I also made it to the point of celebrating birthdays extra special because why not? But not on my birthday. It's on my father's.
Papa and I have almost the same birthdays. His falls on the fourth while mine is on the fifth of the same month.
Mama would say that it would be better to have the celebration fused on the same day. This is also to lessen the expenses. I also see to it that every celebration would fall on Papa's birthday, not mine. Now that I am earning, somehow, I can afford to order some dishes already or maybe dined in famous restaurants.
WHY WAS IT MEMORABLE?
Last year was extra special. I have started building a house and I have shared already how important Papa's presence is in the construction. As a way of thanking him, I made sure his birthday is memorable. We did not dine in famous restaurants. We did not go to Pantaland in Bogo. We did not go with what we were used to. Instead, I ordered food and lechon. I could see how happy Papa is. He was saying that it was his first time celebrating his birthday with a lechon. Hearing him say those lines melted my heart.
Papa is a simple man. He works hard for our family. He always settles less for himself just to give his family more than what we need. He is a responsible family man. I could not ask for more from a father. And making his birthday extra special was far from his sacrifices for our family but I guess this is one the things I could offer to him.
THE TWIST
When the food and lechon arrived, I was shocked because I ordered one lechon but what was delivered was two. I was stunned because I didn't have cash already. 🤦
It was my sister. Yes. She ordered another lechon for me. And I was just speechless. I wanted to surprise Papa not knowing I will also be surprised. I could finally relate to Papa when he said that it was his first time celebrating his birthday with a lechon. 🤗

It was indeed a memorable and meaningful birthday for Papa and I.
THE FAMILY WE HAVE
We did not have much in life when it comes to finances, so having simple celebrations made us contented already. What is more important for us is we have good health, we are always safe and our family is complete. More than just material possessions, we are thankful for the intangible things we have in life - peace, happiness, and contentment.
JUST LET ME SHARE THIS🤗
I wanted Papa to stop working already because my sister and I can provide for him and Mama, and all their needs. But Papa, as a hardworking man, insists to keep on working because he doesn't want to rely upon us, his daughters, because according to him, we too, have a life and plans on our own. See how selfless he is? Mama and Papa never demanded us to give them money for a certain amount to support their needs. They never demanded us to get married too. They never pressure us to have our own family. With this family that I have, I couldn't ask for more. Truly, I am beyond blessed and favored.
My sister is in another country. Mama and Papa are in Somosa, in our residence, while I am in Bongdo, in my own home too. Every Saturday, rain or shine, I always manage to go home and spend time with the two. The spark on their faces seeing me going home is priceless. ❤️
