Anyone with a small child knows how popular the PAW Patrol series and all the gadgets associated with it are. The kids love them. It was only a matter of time before these brave dogs hit the cinema screen. Fortunately, the people of Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures did not follow in the footsteps of their competitors and did not abandon the fairy-tale appearance of the heroes in favor of realistic-looking characters.
The plot is not too complicated. Rayder and the entire PAW Patrol move from the exotic Adventure Bay to the City of Adventure. A place that Chas, one of the team members, has very bad associations with. The trauma he has been carrying since his childhood prevents him from helping others. At key moments, he is paralyzed by fear. And there is a lot of work for the Patrol, because Humdinger, well known to them, became the mayor of the city. Cat lover, narcissist, bungler, madman and outspoken opponent of dogs. Each of his projects turns out to be a great threat to the life and health of the inhabitants.
Making a full-length movie based on a children's drama is always a risky move that is more likely to fail than successful. This time, however, the creators met the expectations of the youngest viewers. Paw Patrol Film retains the atmosphere of the original, slightly improves the appearance of the characters so that fans get a more cinematic quality. The graphics of the characters are better refined, which can be seen especially in the hair of the title team. In addition, a lot is happening on the big screen than in the serial counterpart. Also, the problems that the characters have to deal with are more spectacular. They were designed to keep children in constant suspense. The youngest wonder if Marshall and his friends will be able to save everyone.
I also like winking at older viewers. When a question arises in the minds of fans, where does Ryder get the money for a new base, vehicles and all kinds of gadgets, we get the answer: from you guys. Ryder says bluntly that all activities are financed by selling PAW Patrol gadgets, suggesting that the more toys parents buy for their children, the longer and more effective they will be to help. It must be admitted that this is a very clever procedure.
I also like that there is no typical villain in this fairy tale who intentionally wants to hurt someone. We just have a self-centered Humdinger who wants to be admired and adored by everyone, so he doesn't think about what and how he does. As a result, his ideas turn into a catastrophe very quickly. It must be said right away that its purpose is not to harm anyone.
What would the movie be without new heroes who could join the crew and thus get their own toys and gadgets? In line with this, we meet the resident of the City of Adventure, Liberty. A stray bitch who knows this city best of all. She quickly becomes an important part of the dog team, which is not very comfortable in the crowded streets of the metropolis.
Paw Patrol Movie is great entertainment for both small and large viewers. I was surprised by this because the director was Cal Brunker, whose Gang Squirrel 2 or Little Bigfoot did not arouse my sympathy. However, this is not the case here. He managed to keep the character of a fairy tale. The Polish distributor also maintained the dubbing level. The kids get the same votes as in the fairy tale, and the translator didn't bother to come up with some hidden, political jokes aimed at parents. As a result, everyone has a lot of fun, which is what we expect from such films. On the plus side, I have managed to include a wise and unobtrusive moral in the whole story. And that's even more fun.
