Hello Feathered Friends Lovers,
The contest Show Me A Photo this week is about birds in black and you still have time till tomorrow's contest post payout to submit your entries. Link to the contest - here
In line with this week's theme here are some photos I took today of a blackbird. Technically the bird is black in colour, but my shots are of female, whose colour is dark brown. Males are black with yellow bill.
I caught the bird busy gathering material for the nest. There is a place in the park with several pine trees and next to them an area with shrubs where I saw before a robin. Now the blackbird is obviously making her nest there as she was sneaking in and coming back out to collect more dry grass and small sticks.
I don't know how long it will take the nest to be finished. The male who I saw earlier was gone and I couldn't make any photo, just of the female. I read that the blackbirds are monogamous. The male must have been not very far as he is supposed to protect the territory while his partner was building the nest. The nest will be well hidden in the shrub and I will look forward to seeing their chickens when they will be big enough to go out.
