Two words I said every single day when I was drowning.
Last year, I lost my small business. Rent was due in 3 days. My phone was off. My stomach was empty. But when my neighbor knocked and asked "You need anything?", I smiled and said "No, I'm managing. God is good."
I was not managing. God was good, but I was lying.
Why Was Asking For Help So Difficult For Me?
Pride wore a mask called "Strength"
I grew up hearing "A woman must be strong. Don't beg. Don't shame your family." So I thought asking = weakness. I thought carrying everything alone made me a hero. Instead, it made me sick. Pride is expensive. It cost me my health, my peace, and almost my shop.Fear of "No" + Fear of Pity**
I was scared they would say "Sorry, I don't have." Then I would feel double pain - no help + rejection. I was scared they would help me but look at me with pity. "Poor her." I preferred hunger to pity. Crazy, right?I thought I had to "earn" help first
My mind said: "You didn't help others much, so why should they help you?" I thought help was a bank account. If you don't deposit, you can't withdraw. I forgot that humanity doesn't work like that.
The Day Pride Broke Me
Day 3. The day my transport money lost on my way coming back from school.pple asked,they helped,they paid for the transport leaving me left with change on top
That day I learned: "Asking is not begging. Asking is wisdom."
The people who truly love you don't feel burdened when you ask. They feel trusted.
