Hello beautiful Steemians! On our safety tips today, I want to begin a short series called "Hazard Identification" . This series is going to run for the next 10 days and each day we will be discussing about different hazards that we can find in our workplaces and environment.
Make sure you keep a date with me everyday just so you get a full dosage of this beautiful series.
Today, our hazard Identification is "MOTION".
Motion is the change in position of objects or substances when an external force is exerted on them.
Example of motion includes vehicle, vessel or equipment movement; flowing water; wind; and body positioning when lifting, straining or bending.
Motion becomes hazardous when each of the examples above are not carried out in a controlled manner. Injuries that can result from motion as a hazard includes but not limited to: struck by or crush by a moving vehicle or piece of equipment been moved; Dropped objects; collision of marine vessels with fixed installations like Drilling rigs, platforms or even another vessel ; Struck by objects flying around due to high winds, example tsunamis; Dislocation of joints due to improper body positioning when lifting; and straining of muscles during manual lifting.
Each of these injuries are serious cases and could actually lead to fatality (death) and equipment damage.
So, as you carry out your duties today both at home or in your work place, especially in high risk job environments like offshore drilling rigs and construction sites, be mindful of motion. Always ask yourself, "what if?" Put your mind on the job and be very conscious of your environment. Train yourself to always have a high sense of situational awareness.
"STAY ALERT, AND STAY ALIVE!"
