I'm a good kid from a loving household who just wants to have fun with his friends and flirt with cute girls. But it's easy to find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time on the south side, and in an instant, I found myself in serious trouble.
So I'm walking to school with my elder sister, Rose. I asked Rose if I could use her phone to text someone and she said no, I told her, alright, I'll just tell mom you've been keeping late nights if she asks. She gave her phone and asked who I was going to text, I told her some girl I have a crush on.
In school, I'm standing on the stairways, keeping my gaze on Jane (the girl I have a crush on) and my two friends sam and Lawrence rolls up on me. Sam says " walk your punk ass over there and talk to jane" and I told him, man shut your fat ass up. He said Hey I'm husky, not fat. I don't know why you tripping, talking to girls ain't that hard. I said alright since you're such a fucking expert, why don't you come with me. You with me or not. He said why don't Lawrence come with you. Lawrence replied Hell no, stop getting me into this. I told sam just come on, he said alright. So the three of us walk down to meet Jane.
Jane and her friends are standing over some distance trying to sign up for the school dance. With my friends behind me I said Hey Jane, she replied Hey Tony. Just then Sam holla at one of her friends and she said I see you sam. Jane asked if I was going to sign up, I said sign up for what? The dance she replied, you said you were going to sign up. At that moment I'm lost of words, all i could do is asked, I did? And she said yeah you did. She told my friends they should sign up too, they said no immediately. I said we said we were going to check it out and see how it goes. Lawrence said there's no we, you're on your own in this, I don't fuck with dance. Sam said same here man. I turned back to Jane and said, look I'm just trying to talk to you, she said you'll have plenty of time to talk at the auditions. I was left with no other options, I had to pick the pen and write my name down. After writing my name, Jane said I'll see you later and left with her friends, sam said man you've messed up, you better erase that. I said no, I mean I don't know.
It's already lunch time, me and my boys are seated in the canteen having our lunch, just then Jane and her friends walked in. I said to my friends I know I fucked up, sam said you need to ask her out, go to her right away, She's with her friends I replied, Lawrence said there's no way you're gonna catch her alone, you know these pretty bitches runs in packs. Oh shit here they comes. Jane and her friends were on their way to our table. Sam said to Jane can I help you and she replied no, handed me some pieces of paper and said here's a script for you, you gotta find a role you're going to audition for. Someone wispered dude ask her out but all I could reply was alright and they left. Lawrence said man you blew your chance again, you're never going to ask her out, and I said Yoo shut up I'm just picking my spot, he said your ass is taking long enough. Sam stood up and said I know Jane is your girl and all but to be honest, I think she's actually starting to feel me. I said sit your fat ass down, ain't nobody feeling you.
After school I walked to the auditorium, when I opened the door I saw Jane waving at me to come inside, and i headed towards her just then the teacher asked, are you here for auditions, i was a bit confused, I looked back before replying yeah, name he asked and I said Anthony Phillips, he said Mr Phillips you're late and he asked what role? I was about to mumble something when Jane said The male lead. I turned to her and said the male lead? I can't do the male lead and she said, how would you know unless you try? And I said so I was thinking maybe we could go to the movies sometime and she smiled and said when? And I replied maybe this weekend. She said Saturday I'm going to the mall with Lawrence and I'm like my boy Lawrence? And she said yeah he asked me. At that moment I was mad inside so i just ran outta there.
