This was a while ago when I was in Mumbai, I had made a visit to one of my friend's farm house. She has developed this farm house in the last 3 years. Since I also have plans to do some farming in my backyard, I wanted some tips from her. Her garden is extra ordinary. It is spread over a land area of 4 acres, it's huge and she grows almost every vegetable, fruits, herbs and spices. In the next 2 years' time, she plans to start doing business from her garden. She has done tie ups with some of the online merchandise where she can sell her products. Right now, she is in a full-time job and then she is managing her farm house as well, but 2 years down the line she plans to retire from the job and only focus full time on the farming. It has been her childhood dream and she has been able to fulfill it.
It's not easy to do these things, but she has achieved it and not to ignore that her husband did not support her much, because he thought it was foolish of her to put her job at stake and get into farming. Though now he appreciates the idea and the work behind it. This is a common mentality; people feel that farming cannot be taken up as a main occupation since it may not fetch very good income. To an extent yes, it is true, because the conditions are such that the farmer barely gets any money even though if the product has demand in the market. It goes through so many levels from the farmer till it reaches the end consumer, that even though the cost price of it is low but going through these levels the prices increase and it becomes costly.
I did get to learn a lot from her on farming, she has given me some tips which I am hopeful will be useful for me. Gardening is such a fulfilling activity and being in this environment all the time makes one so much connected to nature and mother Earth. Let me take you through her farm house.
There are so many varieties of plants in the garden, I am not going to name all of them as some of them even I do not remember now.
In this section a lot of Sapota trees are there. They were already there on this land when she bought it.
A Fig plants
That's a Black Ginger plant. It's got medicinal properties and very expensive. Sells at 20$ a kg.
A small piece of ginger has popped out from the bag
These small plants are all different types of herbs
A Banana tree starting to grow
On this side there are Mango plants. This is what she banks on for her future income.
There are some pretty flowers too.
It's time to check out the Terrace. These are the views from the Terrace
She has also installed a Solar Panel on her Terrace
All the fresh growth from the garden. She put it for us, whatever we would want to take.
So much of effort and work goes in maintaining a place like this, but I am sure it is all worth it and very fulfilling also.
Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
