A walk through the beloved city of Lviv./Прогулянка улюбленим містом Львів. (En/Ua)
Hi to all. Christmas evening Lviv is beautiful. Its central streets are filled with people who are thirsty for impressions. I have walked there thousands of times. I love my beloved city, and these tenements, and everything connected with it. Today I want to invite you to one of my city walks. We will visit several popular places in the very center of the city.
Here on the central square, right next to the city hall, there is a monument to the Little Mermaid. She holds a shell in her hand. And a man nearby offers to try a real live oyster. I tried to eat it earlier and got very interesting sensations. The oyster tastes like the sea, just as salty and stormy.
In Ukraine, during the Christmas holidays, people gather to sing carols. And the carolers always wore a brightly decorated star, which symbolically led all people to the nativity scene.
Lviv has a large number of artists and people of art. That is why every corner is filled with meaning and artistic beauty.
It was at this time that the Christmas concert was held. All seats were occupied. And three women filled the void with their voices. The voices first seemed to rise up, and then in width.
This is the Nativity on the hay depicted here.
After leaving the church, I saw my grandfather. Didukh is a Christmas sheaf of wheat, barley, and millet. In ancient times, it was used instead of a Christmas tree. They put it on the table during the evening. It was a sign of abundance and a good harvest in my region. The first sheaf during harvest was used as a grandfather.
In my family, my grandmother used to put straw and hay under the tablecloths. After the Christmas holidays, it was taken out and burned. This tradition comes from pagan times.
Another one of the most beautiful temples in Lviv is the Dominican Cathedral. Believe me, it is worth visiting here. At the entrance there is an inscription from the Bible in Latin letters: "Honor and praise to the only God."
For me, this church stands out for its interior gilding. It has a grand appearance. And the acoustics here are extraordinary. That is why annual carol festivals from all regions of Ukraine take place here.
I was really very surprised that it was so empty on this day. But this is a good time to be alone with yourself.
This is the Nativity I could see in the Dominican Cathedral.
Lviv cobblestones. Horse-drawn carriages used to travel along it.
And this Nativity scene is carved from wood. It is located near the central entrance to the City Hall.
The last one for today will be a visit to the Lviv Cathedral. This is a Catholic cathedral. I like to come here to listen to organ music. And for Christmas, an ancient nativity scene is placed in this church. After the prayer, you can look at all the figurines for a long time. And if you throw a coin into the angel's bag, he nods his head gratefully. I think that I came here with my mother as a child. I remember it clearly. And today I brought my son here.
There are many more interesting locations in Lviv. Today I had a walk to look at the Nativity scenes. I had a lot of impressions. I hope you will immerse yourself in this Christmas atmosphere with me. Thank you all for your attention and visit.
See you again in the "Wednesday Walk" community
