When I started here in Steemit, I have invested my time in featuring my self, my life stories which includes my family and where we've been coming from. It was of my tool for gaining followers, upvotes and receives comments.
made good friends and followed talented people because of opening myself up to our beloved growing world.
I still don't see anything wrong talking about the said subjects.
However, what I have learned for the past months is that we are putting ourselves in risk because of the same exact deed.
I suggest not to to mention your residence address, specific student block at school, where you or your relative works at and other personal information such as bank account number, or your next day/week's whereabouts.
What now?
Instead of replicating what we used to do in facebook like compiling pictures and talk about ourselves and plans, as much as possible try to talk about ideas than people including yourself.
We can still engage and make friends discussing life topics rather than personal matters.
Instead of school, mother-daughter relationship, why not discuss climate change, food, animals, sports?!
Whilst how I used to say Steemit is the new Facebook where we can be ourselves, be open and, gain friends. Should we include the technology behind Steemit's existence, -Blockchain, I can no longer say Steemit is as safe as how our information is at Facebook or other social media platform.
Why? Because of the chain itself.
This is not the time to freak out and consider me creepy.
I still know the impact and difference of Steemit compared to others. I still find it amazing how people here can freely share their known and most especially hidden talents!
Little did we know, whenever we post picture of our family/relatives. it is then gone through the blockchain. and since it is in "chain", it is not easy to remove or protect in terms of security for it will take lots of work to retrieve any information that's already in it.
Lot's of work. why?
Picture a metal chain bracelet, each piece of metal carries our information. Hence, you cannot move one chain unless you move or remove one or the rest of it. The thing is, there is a thousand steemit users and imagine how much activities happen every second all over the world.
We expose ourselves and give away the access to our self/life for free.
Long story short, Facebook has the ability to protect our photos and wipe it all down whenever needed and forever say goodbye to the information. In Steemit's case, it runs in a different system. Once our picture faces, life articles was posted. It is as almost as impossible to turn down.
So think before you click.
Never ever let anything you post be the way to any trouble in the future.
As much as we like to impress share happenings in our lives, let's save it to our blogs and other site which do not use blockchain.
Add value to Steemit by sharing important, timely, and fact-base articles that can be of help to one if not all Steemians in the community.
I am hoping to apply this to myself. So far, I've stop talking about my son, his school activities, his classmates on their uniforms and other details of our lives.
I may be wrong, but this is just me and my opinion. I am open to constructive criticism. Should there's an solution for this already that I am not aware of, kindly enlighten me.
