Flies have incredible eyes! Two large compound eyes and a triplet of small simple eyes at the top of the head. The compound eyes take can take up more than half of the surface of the head!
Zoomed out a bit, this fly also has rather long legs.
Some flies have patterns of colour on their eyes:
Flies will often rub their front pair of legs together, it's a bit like blinking as they are keeping the taste receptors on their feet clean to better taste the things that they alight upon.
The robber fly, is a large predator that I've seen take on dragonflies larger than itself!
They can also give humans a rather nasty bite, (check out the sharp mouthparts under the "moustache"!) though their primary targets are other insects which they grapple from the air, anything from other flies, butterflies to dragonflies and bees.
Comparing the head/eye geometry of these different flies is interesting, the other two flies in this post have eyes that occupy less of the bottom area of the head and more of the top, they are primarily concerned with looking out for potential predators, while the robber fly's eyes extend further down allowing it to spot prey that is below its vantage point. The Robberfly is a mid level predator it still needs to watch out for birds, large dragonflies and other Robberflies but has a smaller number of threats than the other two smaller flies.
