Hello wonderful hivers, so great to be back on this platform after a long while. I had some issues with my mobile phone which hasn't made me consistent.
I've always had this topic in mind because of my experiences in the tertiary institution here in Nigeria, so I'm happy sharing my thoughts in this community.
There's this joy within when you finish secondary school, write jamb and successfully gain admission into the university. Your thoughts of meeting new people and friends, leaving home, your parents and everyone close to you to a new environment. There's just this happy feeling within you. But i wonder when i see some students not being happy, some even cry, some are even clingy. In my own case i was so excited because i was leaving the house to another environment after staying at home after 2 years after i wrote my WAEC. But surprisingly when you get into the tertiary institution it turns out to be a different thing from what you expected, no doubt you'll meet new friends but it turns out to be another hell.
I don't know about universities outside the country, but schooling here in Nigeria is another experience entirely especially the Federal Universities.
So i was motivated to write this piece because of the joy i see on the faces of the final year students after writing their last examination because when they think of what they pass through in school and having that feeling that all of those is now past.
Over here, right from our first year we start experiencing poor electricity, poor infrastructural facilities and resources in hostels, laboratories, libraries classes, unnecessary strike actions, bad leadership, insecurities, unstable academic calendar, poor research centers, poorly equipped lecturers, mismanagement of students properties and documents like test and examination scripts which may lead to the lecturer assuming score for a student or even failing them so when they finally pass all through this stress down to their final year, why won't their heart bubble for Joy. Though i haven't experienced this feeling yet but i will soon.
So this time around so many departments made it colorful by appearing in different colors of sweatshirts and white shirts and polo which their junior colleagues signed on. I interviewed some of them which were close to me and they expressed their whole heart out. Some of them partied, drank and spread money. Some of them were poured water to rinse out the stress. I just can't wait to experience this joy.
