What's your best strategy? / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Desde niño siempre fui bastante tímido, al punto de no gustarme ni que las personas me fijaran mucho la vista, y aunque ya eso es tema superado, aun cuando hago fotos en la calle, evito llamar mucho la atención; pasar desapercibido es mi mayor estrategia.

Ever since I was a child, I’ve always been quite shy—to the point where I didn’t even like it when people looked at me too much. And although I’ve gotten past that now, even when I take photos on the street, I still try to avoid drawing too much attention to myself; going unnoticed is my main strategy.

En La Habana, bien temprano en la mañana, que es la hora que me gusta salir, la gente suele estar en sus asuntos y no se fija tanto en el fotógrafo, pero a medida que el día avanza, ahí comienza la curiosidad hacia el chico con la cámara.

In Havana, early in the morning—which is when I like to go out—people are usually minding their own business and don’t pay much attention to the photographer, but as the day goes on, that’s when curiosity about the guy with the camera starts to kick in.

Recuerdo una señora que hace poco me decía, o más bien me interrogaba, por qué y para quién hacía esas fotos; nada, que lo quería saber todo la señora.

I remember a woman who recently asked me—or rather, grilled me—about why and for whom I was taking those photos; she just wanted to know everything.

Y así voy explorando todos los rincones de la ciudad, o una parte de ella, porque hay otros lugares a los que solo no me atrevería a ir nunca.

And so I go exploring every corner of the city—or at least part of it—because there are other places I’d never dare to go alone.

Se me ocurre una pregunta: ¿cuál es tu estrategia cuando fotografías en la calle? ¿Prefieres hacerte notar o pasar desapercibido como yo?
