The Street, My experiences. / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

There isn’t a single photo outing around town without coming home with—in addition to the pictures—some experiences, many of which will stay with me for a lifetime.

No hay una salida fotográfica por la ciudad sin que uno regrese a casa con, además de las imágenes, algunas vivencias, de ellas muchas para recordar toda la vida.

For example, personally, I’m constantly on edge, always on the lookout in case someone tries to mug me.

Por ejemplo, en lo particular me afecta mucho el estar pendiente todo el tiempo por si intentan asaltarme.

Recently, robberies have increased considerably, especially for casual photographers; we’re easy targets, which is why my alert system is always on.

En los últimos tiempos se han incrementado considerablemente los robos, y más para el fotógrafo entretenido; ese es carnada fácil, de ahí mi sistema de alerta siempre activo.

Sometimes I’m walking down the street—mainly in the oldest part of the city (Old Havana)—and I see people lurking on street corners, ready to strike; so I stare right back at them to make them realize what they’re up to.

A veces voy caminando por la calle, principalmente en la zona más antigua de la ciudad (Habana Vieja), y por las esquinas veo personas prestas vigilando para robar; entonces me les quedo observando fijamente para que se den cuenta de en lo que andan.

I don’t let them get close either; many try to ask me questions just to get closer, but I don’t let them—it’s better to keep my distance.

Tampoco los dejo acercarse; muchos tienen la costumbre de hacerme preguntas para acercarse, pero no los dejo, a la distancia mejor.

My stories might sound a bit paranoid, but unfortunately, that’s the reality; it also gives the photos a different feel because they were taken under these conditions.

Parecen un poco paranoicos mis relatos, pero desgraciadamente es la realidad; también que eso le da un sabor diferente a las fotos porque fueron hechas bajo estas condiciones.
