Some Personal Thoughts./ Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

I grew up in Caimito del Guayabal, a town 40 km from Havana, where Federico García Lorca once stayed with his friend Maroto. I was always raised to love the land. As an adult, Havana welcomed me as an adopted son, and I learned to make it my own as well.

Me crié en Caimito del Guayabal, un pueblo a 40 km de La Habana, donde en una época hizo estancia Federico García Lorca con su amigo Maroto. Siempre me educaron en el amor a la tierra. De adulto, La Habana me acogió como hijo adoptivo y aprendí a hacerla mía también.

That's why I'm interested in documenting its life and its people through photography. All of this has made me a better person and taught me to be more disciplined—the discipline to understand and show others what my eyes see.

Por eso me interesa documentar su vida y su gente a través de la fotografía. Todo esto me ha hecho mejor persona y me ha enseñado a ser más disciplinado. Disciplina para entender y mostrar a los demás lo que ven mis ojos.

Learning about its history has also helped me—it's very interesting, by the way—and every time I'm on a street, I picture the anecdotes I've read in books.

También me ha ayudado el conocer su historia, que, por cierto, es muy interesante, y cada vez que estoy en una calle, visualizo las anécdotas que leí en algún libro.

That's how the hours go by—between the heat of the day and my mind generating ideas for capturing the best images; it all translates into pure delight.

Así van pasando las horas, entre el calor del día y mi mente generando ideas para tomar las mejores imágenes; todo se traduce en puro deleite.

These are some of the photographs I've been taking this week. I'm not aiming for the perfect image, but rather to show the raw, unvarnished reality of my surroundings.

Estas son algunas de las fotografías que he ido tomando esta semana. No pretendo la imagen perfecta, sino mostrar la realidad, pura y dura, de lo que me rodea.

These are difficult times—times for survival and documentation, as a friend tells me. That's why I don't waste a single moment, and I feel the satisfaction of being able to share my work with the community. Thank you all.

Son tiempos difíciles, de sobrevivir y documentar, como me dice un amigo. Por eso no pierdo ni un instante y siento la satisfacción de poder compartir mi trabajo con la comunidad. Gracias a todos.
