Let the Light Speak. / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Candles have deep spiritual significance—in any culture, I would say; they represent light, dispel darkness, and also serve as a vessel for all the prayers offered to the Creator.

Las velas tienen un profundo significado espiritual, en cualquier cultura diría yo; representan la luz, disipar la oscuridad, y son además un recipiente de todas aquellas oraciones que se hacen al Creador.

In Cuba, it is no different, but candles take on a more prominent role in the offering, making visible the people’s plea to the divine.

En Cuba no es diferente, pero toma un mayor protagonismo en la ofrenda, en hacer visible el clamor de su gente ante la divinidad.

Parents plead for their children and vice versa; there is a cry for those in prison, for the sick, for protection from danger, and for a better future.

Los padres suplican por sus hijos y viceversa; ahí va el clamor por los que están en prisión, por los enfermos, por la protección del peligro y un futuro mejor.

The blurring is no accident, because there comes a moment when everything turns into a clamor.

El desenfoque no es casual, porque llega un momento en que todo se transforma en clamor.

Each candle is a voice—or many voices at once; it is something so spiritual, so personal, so sacred.

Cada vela es una voz o muchas voces a la vez; es algo tan espiritual, tan personal, tan sagrado.

And so we watch time pass, with faith in a better future, and in the meantime, each candle continues to fulfill its purpose.

Y así vamos viendo el tiempo pasar, con fe de un mejor futuro y, mientras tanto, cada vela sigue cumpliendo su función.
