Today was the first day of my brand new life. After sitting empty-handed inside my small rented quarter for fifteen long days, I finally stepped out this morning to join my new job in hotel management. Walking to work today felt completely different. My heart was pounding with excitement, but my mind was flashing back to the day when that rude clothing store manager pushed me out into the rain and insulted my hard work. Today felt like my silent answer to that insult.
Honestly, walking into the hotel was a completely different experience. The senior manager actually smiled at me and gave me a warm handshake. At my old sales job, they treated me like some machine that just had to stand around all day on my feet. But here, from the very first hour, the whole vibe was just so respectful.
The manager introduced me to the rest of the staff and told me that every worker here is like a family member. Hearing those words brought a sudden lump to my throat. I had to turn my face away for a second because tears of happiness almost came out of my eyes.
My training started right away. Hotel management is a completely unique world compared to selling clothes. Today, I learned how to stand professionally at the front desk, how to use the computer system to check room availability, and how to speak politely to international and local guests who arrive with heavy luggage. It is a lot of new information and my brain was tired by the afternoon, but it is a good kind of tiredness. For the first time in weeks, I did not feel like a helpless jobless guy. I felt important.
The best part of the day happened during lunch break. In the clothing market, I had to eat oily hotel food alone on a wooden stool. Today, the hotel staff sat together in a clean breakroom. We shared our lunch, drank hot milk tea, and they laughed at my funny stories about Karachi. Finding good people who respect your presence is a luxury that money cannot buy. I came back to my quarter tonight feeling completely refreshed and alive.
I am writing this happy post because I want to show everyone on Ecency that bad days do not last forever. When you lose something, do not lose your faith in Allah Pak. He takes away a small door only to give you a much bigger and more beautiful gate. Tomorrow morning, I will go back to the hotel front desk with even more energy. I am one step closer to my dream of making a permanent home for my family.
Have you ever started a new job where the respect of the people mattered more to you than the money? How did you feel on your very first day in a completely new career? Please drop your congratulations and kind prayers in the comments below. Your support means the world to me tonight.
