The greatest reward in any job isn't just the salary at the end of the month. It is the respect you earn from strangers. Today was a day that I will remember for a very long time. It proved to me that when you treat people with a pure heart, Allah Pak returns that love through those very people.
My shift started as usual at 6:00 PM.
I wore my clean uniform, fixed my shirt, and stood right at my spot. These days, I just try my best to greet everyone with a real, big smile. I don't just give them keys or take food orders. I try to make them feel super happy here. Today, a really crazy thing happened. Some regular guests came inside the hotel lobby. The other staff boys went to help them, but the guests stopped them politely. They looked around the room, pointed their finger at me, and said, "Call that boy Aftab, we want him only."
Man, my heart literally jumped up with so much joy. Hearing my own name from regular customers made me feel so big and proud. You can buy expensive things with money, but you can never buy real love and respect from people. So, I ran fast to their table. I served them with full energy and checked if they needed anything else.
When they were leaving, the main guest smiled warmly at me. He shook my hand, and gently slipped something into my palm. It was a tip of 250 PKR. It wasn't about the amount of money; it was about the feeling. In my old clothing store job, I was insulted and pushed out in the rain for working hard. Today, a stranger gave me money just because he appreciated my manners. I had to blink hard to hide the happy tears in my eyes right there in the lobby.
But working a complete night shift is a heavy test for the body. By 12:30 AM in the middle of the night, my legs started to ache badly. Standing on your feet for hours after days of being jobless takes a toll. My senior manager noticed me leaning slightly against the desk. He walked up to me, put a hand on my shoulder, and said, "Aftab, you look exhausted. You have worked hard tonight. Go home early and rest." I couldn't believe it. Finding such a caring boss is a huge blessing.
Instead of my usual 6:00 AM clock-out, I got off early at 5:30 AM. The fresh morning air of Lahore hit my face so nicely. I walked straight towards the mosque near me. I did my Fajr prayers with a completely peaceful mind. After that, I finally came back to my tiny room to sleep.
As I lay down on my bed to sleep, I didn't feel lonely anymore. I felt important. I felt like I am finally building a life full of respect and bright hopes.
