Dr. Martin Cooper and John Francis Mitchell working at Motterola Company are the first to be the inventor of mobile phones. In April of 1973, they were able to successfully call a 1 kg (2.2 pounds) weight in the hands of the phone.

Even though mobile phone makers have added many interesting features to specialize their phones, all mobile phones have some basic features that are their essential components. These are:
Electrical cell or battery - acts as the source of the power of the phone. Any input method that allows phone interaction or bi-lateral communication with the phone user. The most widely used input method is the key pad, but the touch screen or touch screen has got a lot of popularity now. Simple mobile phone service by which the user can talk or send messages. GSM phones have a SIM card. Some CDMA phones have a rim card. It is a unique IMEI number for each phone to identify the phone.

Various mobile phones have been designed for some specific users. For example, BlackBerry came with the specialized e-mail facility for multinational or corporate users. Sony-Ericsson's special listening 'Walkman' series or 'CyberShot' camera phone, Nokia N series multi-media phone and iPhone series or Samsung's galaxy S series.
