Human Rights.
It's something you don't hear much about these days. Seems to me, focusing here would enhance subsequent rights of said humans without excluding anyone. I know many consider this to a Christian nation, but consider a quote from the Wiccan Rede:
'An' ye harm none, do what ye will.'
Seems a logical next step from 'Love thy neighbor', right?
Can we be free without enslaving others? Not so easy as it sounds. Our actions in the so-called 'free market' have unseen consequences that would embarrass the most vicious of us.
Also, can a free market coexist with the IRS, the FED, and a legal system that defines corporations as 'persons' ?
...and money as 'free speech'?
In addition, our opinions on how others should live deprive many of life itself.
'Harming none' may also mean protecting Animal Rights and the lands, bodies of water, and skies that make up what we refer to as Planet Earth. If you think it is just hippie nonsense to suggest 'everything is connected', then consider the plants that give us oxygen and food, the earthworms that burrow into the soil allowing said plants to grow, the water we drink, etc...
Thing is, government will never secure human rights, only humans can do that. You can't vote for Anarchism, or can you?...
Regardless of what the correct political path is, we will need to come to a consensus on Human Rights: what they are, how to secure them, how to rid ourselves of entities that seek to destroy them. Otherwise, us humans are acting against our best interests.
