"Wouldn't it be good if some of these trees could talk, like they do in the movie "
"Or the book," replied my friend.
"Or the book." I said
It doesn't really matter. A story is a story, whether it is a film, book, cartoon, play or whatever
"The book is so much better," said my friend.
"I've not read the book."
"It's the only way to enjoy it."
"I liked the movie," I replied.
When I say friend, I really mean an aquantence. I'm finding him annoying right now
"I don't really want to read the book. It's very long," I sad
"But it's so much better than the movie."
We hear a voice
"No it's not," said the strong deep voice.
*What was that?" I asked. "Where did that deep voice come from?"
"I don't know," said my acquaintance.
"I can tell you one thing," I said. "Whoever or whatever it is, he doesn't care much for the book."
My acquaintance is about to speak, but as he is about to open his mouth, the loud voice intervenes again.
"I don't like the book," said the loud voice. "I'd rather watch the movie."
"But the book is better."
"I don't care if the book is better," I said. "I really don't. I've not read it but I've seen the movie. I love the story. I may read the book one day, but then again, I may not."
There is silence. A minute later, I break the ice.
"That voice. Where is it coming from why does it agree with me? Maybe it is one of the trees talking."
"Yes," said the loud voice. "I am one of the trees."
"This is a silly trick," said my acquaintance. When I say acquaintance, I really mean a living human. I don't like him at all.
"This is not a silly trick," said the voice. "I am a tree and I am talking. I hate the book. The movie is better."
I think I'll play the middle man.
"Why don't we agree that everyone is different. Some people like the movie, some people like the book."
"The book is better," said the living human.
"No it's not," said the voice which was possibly a tree.
We're not getting very far
The loud voice which was probably a tree raised his voice again.
"The movie is better, because they will use us, the trees, to make the book."
