*We're entering the new age now."
What does that mean?
"It means the age of something new and exciting."
I do remember thinking that the new age would come. But that was in my young twenties. I had this idea that the whole world would want nothing more, than to travel to Amsterdam every now and then.
I was wrong.
"The new age is always promised. Maybe it did. Maybe it does. But it feels like a smoke screen. Like an escape. Nothing real."
…..and with that thought, I decided to leave the topic, find a loud record and have a beer.
But something strange happened.
The music stopped. There is a voice.
"We interrupt this record to tell you that the new age has come. We will all live in peace and harmony, like a group of hippies. Bliss."
I know better. Firstly, I'm playing a record. It wouldn't just stop like that. Secondly, that voice was very robotic.
"Oi," I shouted. "I'm listening to my loud rock n roll record, really loudly. It's not polite to interrupt."
"Put your records away, it is the new age."
"No it isn't, pal."
"You should stop listening to your punk music and join the cause of peace and harmony."
"I am joining the cause of peace and harmony. Today, I'm in a punk mood. You're a dreamer. Go away."
I didn't really say go away. I said something else, but there may be children reading.
"It is inevitable," said the robotic voice.
"Really?" I replied. "Go away."
"What does Fuck Off mean?" asked the voice.
"It means that you've just lost my child audience and that you're a big pain in the arse."
"What is an arse?" asked the voice.
