We've built basically everything on the Homestead DIY with some sweat, tears and blood AND with the help of some friends. In this vlog, we talk about making structures that aren't built to last 70 years, the WHY behind that and our plans for the Outdoor Kitchen.
For our outdoor kitchen, we are using trees from our forest and used roofing we got at our local Recycling Center. We're building this to meet a NEED we have now on the homestead of having a cool place outdoors to cook that is close to the high tunnel, chickens, water and more. In summer, there is nothing better than cooking outdoors.
We had an outdoor kitchen last year that was basically a tent shelter! This year we're stepping it up to an outdoor kitchen that's set in place, but it's not THE final outdoor kitchen design that we have in mind. With so much TO DO all of the time on a homestead, we have to pick and choose which projects get priority. Right now that's setting up our high tunnel, planting trees, shrubs and spring crops and finishing project odds and ends before the busy season starts. We want to build a badass outdoor kitchen that's more permanent, but we're not ready nor do we have time now, so we're fulfilling our needs by setting up this semi-permanent structure.
