While exploring the ancient sites of Istanbul, a traveler can come across the magnificent Galata Tower, which is seen on the horizon above the city skyline.
Sure enough, this tower is a masterpiece, as it is beautiful both day and night.
The Galata Tower, also known as Christea Turris (Tower of Christ), was built in 1348 by the Genoese residents of Constantinople as a high tower at the top of the fortress’s walls surrounding Galata.
The Galata Tower is nearly 67m high, and this Romanesque stone tower was built on the site of an ancient Byzantine wooden tower, which was destroyed during the Fourth Crusade.
For the majority of its existence, the tower has served as a fire watchtower, first spotting conflagrations in the city, and later, during the reign of the Ottoman Empire, it became a prison and an arms warehouse, as well as an astronomical observatory for a short time during the rule of Sultan Murad III.
The Galata Tower is one of the tallest and most recognizable landmarks in the city, and a visit to this vantage point is a must during any trip to Istanbul.
I processed these photos again using the software I wrote, WaterMarker. I'm thinking about abbreviating its name to WM so it’s easier to say. What do you think about changing the name to WM when I release it? I'm a bit torn because the full name clearly shows what the app does, but then again, this software has grown to do much more than just watermarking, so I need to choose between the two!
I am adding new features to it every day. One artistic effect I added yesterday is a motion/stretch effect that I personally love.
