Qué me hace sentido?.
Hello to all members of this community, @brujita18 's post about frustration inspired me to write and share an account of experiences associated with the frustration with wasting time.
I come from a family and culture where there is a literal cult of "time". Since I was a child I was taught that I had to take advantage of time, phrases such as "time is money", "saints cry for lost time", "time heals everything"...and many other phrases emphasizing the value of time.
With that in mind, I started at a very young age the race against time, to have at that age my professional degree, the job of my dreams, the house and family. I had clear short, medium and long term goals with an estimated date of completion. What is my surprise that in all these years time has become a serious rival.
Recently I read in a book called A Course of Miracles, the following phrase "time is a learning resource". Since then this phrase has been going round and round in my head, how a learning resource? Learning what? and for what?
As I took the phrase literally, I no longer wasted time watching television or social networks, I dedicated myself to read every book I could get my hands on, because I had to take advantage of the "time" to learn "something".
The fact is that recently I had an episode of frustration, anger, and impotence, the ghost of my eternal rival returned: time.
I am in a training and for 11 weeks I dedicated a lot of energy, passion, time and money and I did not get the expected results. The teacher who was evaluating me at that time told me that I needed to improve some aspects, and that I had to dedicate more time.
Inside my head, "what more time? Until when? I want to see the results now!
I fell apart at that moment, and I remembered all the episodes of frustration associated with not having what I expected in the time I had in mind: I wasted my time with this person, because the relationship did not materialize, I wasted my time in this job because I never got the promotion I expected, I wasted my time doing this activity and I did not earn enough money?
In short, the list grew and so did the drama. After that discharge of fury, disappointment and crying came the reflective process, licking the wounds, and asking myself what really hurt? Not getting the result? or not getting it in the time frame?
I actually resented the years, months and days dedicated to something that I don't expect it's time. Now I ask myself what I want to dedicate my time to and for what? What makes sense to me?
For now I want to dedicate my time to enjoy every moment in full presence, without expecting any result, keeping in mind that every activity I do or relationship I establish generates well-being...
Finally, time is a learning resource.
