It is almost the weekend already, and I have loads of sewing work to carry out. A neighbor wants to sew an emergency school uniform for his daughter, who will be graduating high school this summer. Although she has just a few months left in school, her school uniforms are so torn and can no longer be worn to school. It won't be fair for an adolescent to wear a torn uniform.

My younger brother equally needs a new traditional outfit for his presentation in church on Sunday.

Meanwhile, I have a few more customers' outfits with me who are due to receive their wear by this weekend. Sometimes we get really idle with nothing to do, while other times it seems like almost everyone wants to have you sew them a new outfit.

To start with all of the sewing tasks at hand, I decided to sew a shift dress for myself that I will be needing this weekend. Our annual state youth conference is this weekend, and I keep having this feeling of wearing something different to the outfit. For any occasion, I love to appear my best in order to sell off my skills. Of course, we need more clients to patronize our business.

To get started, I got my fabric ready and kept thinking of what to sew with it. I need this dress tomorrow morning and don't have the time to sew any complicated design. The dress will be a simple one, yet it has to be something attractive.

Whenever it comes to sewing clothes for me, it is always a challenge, as I don't love to pick designs online or replicate other people's designs. I love to make something unique.

I usually waste so much time when putting my creative imaginations to create the design first in my head.

Eventually I didn't have a choice but to pick inspiration online.

In the end I started cutting the back bodice here, using a high neck for it.

Next I cut the front bodice.

And decided to go stylish with the sleeve cutting, both a straight sleeve and then a flared sleeve.

I created a keyhole at the back since the dress won't be having a zipper and that is necessary for the dress to pass through one head easily.

Stitching

For the stitching, I started with turning the necklines with bias, and then I joined the shoulder and side seams.

The sleeves were next. After sewing a clean hemming for it, I attached the flared sleeves first and then the straight sleeves.

The remaining piece of the fabric was then pleated to the hem of the dress. Everything was completed, and the dress was ready. I wished that the lower pleats were fuller, but there is not much fabric to do that.

Now that I have my dress ready, I can go ahead with my brother's outfit and some of the clients' clothes with me. Eventually I hope that I don't get to disappoint some people out of wearing some new clothes as at when they need it.
