Harvest of potatoes have begun in various location and we can hardly wait for ours.
It's a brand new day and we are happy to see the light of the new day. Just as usual we are already on our way to farm to continue with our work. Our rice Transplanting has to end this week as it is obvious that anything planted after this week may not produce anymore. We were late to start the planting exercise and while we still tried to hurry up our work was delayed with the mini droughts that kept drying the farm each time.
Transplanting of rice has to be done in abundant of soil water, whenever the ground got dried, we had to hold on with the work and that has delayed most of the transplanting activities.
And then again when the rains started falling, they fell so heavily that after every downpour these transplanted rice you see here all gets flushed away by the downpour and we have to replace everything we have earlier planted.
We had to work on a particular portion more than once to replace damaged seedlings, this was just how we kept rotating in the farm. It's is usually a challenging exercise transplanting rice and this is the situation we found ourselves. By next year, we would be seeking other work strategies to ease this labour and stress.
Right after work yesterday we decided to check on the progress of our potatoes plants. Harvest of tubers have begun in other places. We have planted only potatoes this year and can't wait to harvest them. My Daddy has been unwell this year and most of this tuber cultivation was often done by him.
Potatoes arent difficult go grow hence I was able to plant these. Right after planting we only had fo weed them once and like the cover crops they are, they have grown and covered the whole ground here. I lost the trackkd time we have planted these and I'm assuming that the timing is something around the month of June.
We would allow these to completely spend the month of September before we can be sure if they are really matured, once you start harvest, all the tubers have go be taken out at once before we find out the different means for preserving them.
For now the tubers sold in the market have all been brought in from different location, we hope that we would be able to harvest out in two weeks time or thereabout.
