DIY : A beautiful Maxi dress I made for my sister. Making process
Hello Hive.
Its about time for our children's annual end of the year parties and by this it means that students are graduating from one class in school to another and we are ending the years school calendar. There is always a party to celebrate the best performing students in every schools. Everyone is due to be promoted to their next class except those who didn't perform upto expectations and are being forced to repeat their previous class.
Parents teachers and everyone is often excited to see their wards academic performance and on the said party day, several gifts will be going out to students who performed well.
In this light everyone will be dressed in their best outfit, graduating gowns will be sewn for students while none graduate will all be dressed in beautiful and presentable apparel.
The teachers are often not left out of the partying as they are equally meant to be celebrated for grooming and teaching the pupils they will also prepare to look good on the said date. Here is the common fabric picked by the teachers in my sister's school, they will all be sewing this exact fabrics in different style to wear on the said day of graduation.
I will be sewing for some of the teachers begining with my sister own here
I started by folding the fabric into two(2) According to her bust measurements using the largest part of her body together with seam allowance.
Next I measured the shoulder armhole
Chest lines ,waist, Hip and floor length of my sister Measurement
Front and back block of the outfit.
After cutting the front body using a neckline of 4.5" width slashed it at the mid neckline I had placed it on another folded fabric to cut the back. The back neckline has the same width as the front and a 1.5" depth.
Plain material for the front neckline
Next I cut out a plain fabric here crating a stylish front neckline before I added some stay to the fabric go be sewn go the front neckline
Next was the straight sleeve of 10" that I had cut and with an extra 1.5" of the plain fabric to be used to tape the hem of the sleeves
Sewing process
I started by stitching the black plain fabric to the front neckline
Then I used a bias to turn the back neckline before joining it to the front fabric via the shoulders first and then sewing the side seam lines
That was done and then the sleeves were also sewn and attached to the blouse.
I ensured that the stitches were even on both sides to keep the vertical lines of the fabric even because that is actually what brings out the beauty of this coat or dress of many colors 馃榾
Just a simple ironing and the first of these two dresses I will be making is ready. I will be waiting for each of the teachers to see what designs they will all make of their fabric and who will rock this better.
