It has become a tradition at every Christmas celebration on 26th December all activities are closed, office, school, and labor. But different in England there is the term Boxing Day.
Boxing Day is the day where the Christmas days of the workers in England are still working, so the next day on the 27th of December they are just off, and the employers give them a box of presents, so called Boxing Day. And this culture was first performed when the reign of Queen Elizabeth.
Premier League is the only league in europe who also does not holiday on Christmas Day, they still compete on the holiday that titled Boxing Day Match. They still compete to entertain the workers who are still working, as the basic meaning of football is as entertainment for the audience, and football is meaningless without the supporters.
