The Hive sculpture, is a design of UK based artist Wolfgang Buttress and provides a unique addition to the host of attractions that Kew Gardens (located in West London), has to offer.
Standing 17 metres high, the sculpture is constructed from 170,000 aluminium parts and 1,000 LED lights and took approximately four months to reconstruct this British engineering feat.
The Hive sculpture is a multi-sensory experience designed to highlight the extraordinary life of bees.
Once we stepped inside the Hive, we were immersed in a sound and visual experience like no other....
The lights that we saw and the sounds that we heard, while standing inside the Hive, were triggered by the actual bee activity in a real beehive at Kew Gardens!
The intensity of the sounds and light visuals were changing frequently, echoing that of the real beehive.
The Hive sculpture which has won multiple awards, was inspired by scientific research into the health of honeybees.
It is also a visual symbol of the pollinators’ role in feeding the planet and the challenges facing bees today.
Fittingly, the Hive sculpture is set in a wildflower meadow area of Kew Gardens and is well worth a visit!
