I was so proud of the large batch of scrumptious plantain chips I had freshly made and bagged up. I had a huge order from a school at the other community in our area. I knew it was going to be a long walk there because no vehicles were going towards that side because it had been raining nonstop for days which had made the roads so bad to move on vehicle you could only move with your feet, no even a bicycle could move there, but I didn't mind since it was such a big sale. While humming a happy tune, I slung the bulging bags over both shoulders and headed out into the street for the long delivery walk ahead.
About an hour later when I was on my way back, huge dark clouds suddenly rolled in. Before I knew it, long sticks of rain began pouring down from the sky! I shrieked as the cold raindrops quickly soaked through my clothes and drenched the bags of remaining chips I had thought I could deliver to another customer . Trying not to slip, I turned the corner onto the next street. That's when I noticed a huge problem in front of me, it was a gaping pothole had formed on the path right in front of me, rapidly swelling with pooling water.
In an effort to not crash into the crater-like pothole and destroy my beloved creation, I attempted to swiftly sidestep around it. But the muddy ground betrayed me - both feet shot out from under me, the weighty bags of hand-cut chips ripping from my grasp. I flailed helpless for a moment before gravity took hold and I landed hard on my backside with a mighty squelch into the flooded street below. Pain rocketed through me as I made impact with cold muddy water, For a minute, all I could do was gasp for the wind that had been fiercely knocked from my lungs by the blunt force. The meticulously packaged plantain chips were no match for the deluge and had exploded out of their bags upon my botched release of them. Oh what a calamity! My poor backside throbbing, I somehow found the strength through gritted teeth to gather my sore self up from the merciless wet ground. Examining a nasty rip in the knee of my pants and mud covering my normally stainless white shirt, I could only sigh at the state of me and my clothes
Completely sad but determined, I dejectedly salvaged what surviving scraps remained of my once perfect plantain chips and limped the rest of the miserable trek home cold, battered and soggy. But I will not be defeated! Come sunshine, I shall bounce back and chop up an even bigger batch of my irresistible plantain chips! Perhaps next time, no deliveries farther than a friendly stroll away.
