Beautiful beach 🌺 in Campeche, Mexico 🇲🇽

Today we, my friend, his wife and his daughters are all going to a beach about 20 minutes away by car from the city of Campeche. I see the sea in Sweden, but the Baltic Sea is cold and swimming is only possible during a warm week or two in July.

Stockholm has many lakes, so I sometimes go swimming, but the water temperature is so low that when I get out of the water, I have to sit by a fire or I feel I will catch a cold, because it takes all my body heat. It is so cold that I have decided not to go swimming in Stockholm unless the temperature is above 30 degrees Celsius. (Even when the temperature rises, the water temperature is so cold that it's so chilly you'd think you'd have a heart attack.)

The waters of Campeche are warm, and the Gulf of Mexico seems to be rich in seafood, and we saw crab nets everywhere. The water temperature was so warm and the swimming so pleasant that it was hard to believe that it was November. I felt once again that I was in a tropical country.

My friend's daughter and I played in the sandbox on the beach and picked up seashells together. The sound of waves coming from the ocean was soothing and very relaxing. Taking a nap in a hammock while listening to the sound of waves reminded me of Jamaica and Belize, where I went when I was a student.

There were many tourists from Europe and the U.S.,(Maybe not from the US, but people from English speaking countrirs) enjoying sunbathing. What I thought was interesting was that while Westerners competitively sunbathed and tanned themselves, the locals, including my friend and his wife, were enjoying the shade and napping in their hammocks in the shade.

In contrast, the locals were enjoying the ocean while avoiding direct sunlight as much as possible. I always wonder why Westerners like sunbathing so much, and this kind of scene always makes me very curious. In Sweden, I heard the other day that it is minus 5 degrees Celsius in November and it has started snowing. I can understand why people from such places would want to compete for the sun when they come here for a week or so to see the sights.

Locals in Mexico and Asians like me seem to think that it is not good to sunbathe, but in the West, it seems to be considered a very good thing. I didn't want to get skin cancer when I got older, and I didn't want my skin to be ravaged by the sun when I got older, so I took a nap in a hammock in the shade.

It had been a long time since I had been to the ocean, but I forgot everything I hated about it by napping while listening to the sound of the waves, and it was a really nice change of pace. I thought it would be nice if I could take a nap in a hammock on the beach again, relaxing and reading a book.

Seafood at the beach was amazing!!

I want to go back there again someday!!

今日はみんなでカンペチェ市内から車で20分ぐらい離れているビーチに行くことになりました。スウェーデンでも海は見ることはあるけど、バルト海は冷たく泳ぐのは7月の暖かい1週間か2週間の間のみに限られます。

ストックホルムはたくさんの湖があるのでたまに泳ぎに行ったりしますが、水温が低く水から上がると焚き火にあたらないと風邪をひくのではないかと思うほど体温を奪われます。本当にそれは冷たく、私もストックホルムでは気温が30度を越えないと泳ぎに行かないと決めています。（気温が上がっても、水温は本当に冷たくて、心臓発作をおこさないかなと思うぐらいひやっとしています）

カンペチェの海は温かく、メキシコ湾は海の幸に恵まれているらしく、至るところにカニ漁をしている仕掛け網を見かけました。水温はとても温かく、泳いでも気持ちがよく、今が11月とは思えないほど楽しく海のなかで泳ぐことが出来ました。やっぱりここは南国なんだなと改めて感じました。

友人の娘さんとは浜の砂場で遊んだり、一緒に貝殻を拾いに行きました。海から聞こえる涙の音が心地よく、とてもリラックス出来ました。ハンモックで波の音を聞きながら昼寝をすると、学生時代に行ったジャマイカやベリーズを思い出します。

欧米から観光客もたくさん来ていて、日光浴を楽しんでいました。面白いなと思ったのが、欧米人は競うように日光を浴びて日焼けをしているのに対して、友人夫妻を含む地元の人たちは日陰でハンモックを使って昼寝をしたり、日陰で楽しんでいました。

欧米人達は皆が、サングラスをかけて、日光浴をしていました、それに対照的に地元の人たちは直射日光を極力避けて海を楽しんでいました。欧米人はなぜあれ程、日光浴が好きなのかなとこういった光景を見るといつもすごく興味深く思います。北欧のスウェーデンだと、11月の今はマイナス5度と、雪が降り始めたと先日行っていました。やっぱり、その様な土地から観光に1週間とか来ると、競うように太陽を浴びたくなる気持ちもわかります。

メキシコの地元人や、私のようなアジア人は日光に肌を焼くのは良くないと思っているようですが欧米ではとても良いことのようにとらえているように思います。私は年をとって皮膚がんになるのも嫌だし、年をとってから日光で肌がぼろぼろになるのも嫌だなぁーと思っていたので、日陰でハンモックに乗って昼寝をしていました。

久しぶりに来た海ですが、何もかも嫌なことは波の音を聞きながら昼寝をすることで忘れて、本当によい気分転換になりました。また、ゆっくりと浜辺でハンモックを使って昼寝をしたり、本を読んだり出来たら良いなと思いました。
