Another hot Sunny day, as I walked the busy roads of this city after sorting and searching for the items listed on the jotter, I had to board a cab home immediately for I was already exhausted.
“Aunty Good afternoon, please coman gimme money” I heard as a young dirty looking but mannered girl held unto my free hand gently with pleading gestures. I usually would brush them off and move on but i paused, sighed, stared at her as thoughts ran through my head.
I never give out cash to kids I find in this state for I wonder where their parents are or why they abandoned them in such a situation. So yes, out of the anger I feel toward their parents I turn down the requests of these kids.
For it has become a habit amongst them. But would you really blame them? Because some of them are intentionally sent by their parents to get cash from passers-by, of course which they end up giving to their parents who make the final decision on what the money would be used for.
This is heart breaking. I have no right to judge the parents of these kids, because most likely not every one of them was brought to the world through the right process or condition.
I just wish the parents would strive a little more to give them the best they can. How much and long can they survive on that
#200 note that was given to her by that stranger?
Well at least she thought to beg strangers then going to the refuse dump or bin to seek for what to eat and end up accumulating all kinds of diseases which would require more expenses to treat.
I know, literacy has a role to play in all of this, for if you know, you know, right?
But this one touched a nerve of mine, I couldn’t help but give her the little change I had with me, as I watched her, she joyfully purchased a snack and munched on it, for she was really hungry. I wish I could bring her out of this state.
