The “framers” of this Country, the U.S. of A. built the system of governance to be run by each member of the Country. This Country they called a “Republic” that was to be run under the “Rule of Law” and that NO PERSON should be above the law. The type of Government was to be a “Democratic” government within the system of the REPUBLIC. This is not to say that the Country is a DEMOCRACY, but indeed a Democratically controlled REPUBLIC. The GOVERNANCE of this Republic was to be given to the CITIZENS of the Republic with each having an equal say in the Government. When the “FRAMERS” of our Constitution wrote it out, there was no question of who or what would have a vote, all that was said was “All men are created equal” but not limited to the Males.
Anyone who has read the Constitution might have actually gotten caught with the PREAMBLE which states “We The People” and is in a bolder Hand than the entire contents of the Preamble. This is simply stating that this country is run by the PEOPLE, not just a small percentage, but rather, ALL the people. Simply put, WE have the responsibility of self governance. If there is something going on that is not universally acceptable, or at least acceptable to the majority, then WE have the obligation to change it.
Following the PREAMBLE there are certain “Articles” that outline how the Country is to be run, with protections and adherences to law that must be abided to by all. Those who choose not to follow the Rule of Law are considered “OUTLAWS” and hopefully are punished for their transgressions.
What really is upsetting to me, personally, is when I hear “Why bother, my vote doesn’t count anyway.” And when I hear that, I think about the 243 years and the fight for freedom that our forefathers went through just so YOU can have that privilege. While “Voting” is a right guaranteed in the Constitution, it is so much more than a “Right”, it is a RESPONSIBILITY that should be taken quite seriously. So, when you say “My vote doesn’t count”, you’re right, you didn’t vote, it didn’t count. The only votes that do count are the ones cast.
Please, take this privilege seriously. After all, someone’s forefather gave his life so that you would have the right to vote. Mitch, out
