Do you have access to a Crystal ball? Or better put, will you like to have access to a Crystal ball? Now imagine crystal balls were an actual thing and you could really take a peek inside to see what your future looked like, would take the chance? Wouldn't it save you a lot of trouble and unnecessary stress to know where your life was headed and if you were presently wasting your time or were on the right track?
I had a friend way back who claimed to have spiritual powers, we were in a hall together one time and I was busy with something while she was taking drink from a flask, at a point she poured her drink into a cup and looked into my face, then she said something puzzling enough, she asked me if I'd like to take a look into her cup and see what my future looked like.
I literally laughed out loud, trust me that was my first reaction, then she seemed pretty serious, but I declined, even if it were to be true and my future was being displayed like a movie in her cup, I just didn't think it was something I wanted to see.
Imagine that the moment we are born into this world, we were shown how our lives were to end up, a lot of people would sail through the journey of life enthusiastically, while others will end theirs almost immediately, think of the people presently living in the war zones and third world countries, kids displaced at very early ages and subjected to harsh realities of life, if only they knew right?
What then will be the essence of life?
It is easy to warm up to the idea of having a glimpse of what ones future holds because we think we will be able to work towards it and avoid unnecessary twist and turns, whereas in reality, I think it will only rub people off one of the most fundamental gifts of life, choice.
I believe every human being is born and gifted with the ability to make choices, sometimes we have the freedom to choose, other times we don't, but each choice we make have the potential to either drastically set the momentum of our life in a upward motion or downward or just enough motion at the level we are comfortable with.
Choices can either make or mar, choices can either set back or launch forward. Choices are a f**king big deal.
If we look at successful people around us, non of them are due to the fact that they had access to a crystal ball at birth, it was as a result of the choices they made, sometimes with a sprinkle of luck. You don't need a crystal ball to tell you that if you put your hands in fire, you'll get burnt, no matter how lucky you can be, but if you do, its your choice.
In a nutshell, the presence of such a thing as crystal ball demeans the existence of an ability as choice. One thing we don't need a crystal ball to see that we very well know from our birth is that we are all going to die, yet that hasn't stopped anyone from not dying, so what is the assurance that ones life will be exactly as the crystal ball says it will.
I wouldn't mind seeing when Steem will moon though....then I can choose to sell my house and buy more steem especially at this crazily low prices. What a choice that will be eh?!
