I want to share with you a reflection that I have been developing since December when, together with other mothers and the children's tennis teacher, we agreed to carry out an activity where we would teach the children the value of sowing and being careful with mother earth.
For some time I have firmly believed that education, both at school and at home, should aim to go beyond the learning of topics and subjects contained in a curriculum, which in many countries has not been updated for quite some time. In addition, I also believe that it is necessary to reform that traditional professorial learning style of a teacher standing in front of a number of children with a chalk writing on a blackboard or in cases where technology has allowed it in front of a computer.
Learning by doing and even more including fun through playful activities makes children take even more advantage of those learning experiences, and including actions such as planting a tree, cleaning the environment, recycling, among others, makes us sow that seed to form a responsible and caring citizen of the world with the planet.

Quiero compartirles una reflexión que he ido gestando desde diciembre cuando, junto con otras madres y el profesor de tennis de los niños, nos pusimos de acuerdo para realizar una actividad dónde le enseñáramos a los niños el valor de sembrar y ser cuidadosos con la madre tierra.
Desde hace un tiempo creo firmemente que la educación, tanto en la escuela como en el hogar, debe apuntar a ir más allá del aprendizaje de temas y materias contenidas en un pensum, que en muchos países no se actualiza desde hace bastante tiempo. Además, también creo que es necesario reformar ese tradicional estilo de aprendizaje catedrático de un profesor parado frente a un número de niños con una tiza escribiendo en una pizarra o en los casos que la tecnología lo haya permitido frente a un ordenador.
Aprender haciendo y aún más incluyendo la diversión a través de actividades lúdicas hace que los niños aprovechen aún más esas experiencias de aprendizaje, e incluir acciones como sembrar un árbol, limpiar el medio ambiente, reciclar, entre otras, hace que sembremos esa semilla para formar un ciudadano del mundo responsable y cuidadoso con el planeta.

All the children were enthusiastic because it was the first time they had done an activity of this nature and they enjoyed putting their hands in the soil and planting each of the plants that we had brought to decorate the place.
Miguel is anxious to go back to his tennis classes to see the plants, he wants to see if they grew more and how they look after this month that has passed since we were in the activity, on more than one occasion he has expressed his concern because he thought that being on vacation nobody was going to water the plants and they would die, which made me realize that we had fulfilled the purpose we had set with the activity.
El último día de clases preparamos una actividad para que los niños sembraran unas plantas alrededor de las canchas, tuvimos la oportunidad de hablarles de la importancia de cuidar el medio ambiente y hacerles saber que podían con simples acciones ser promotores de cuidado y preservación. Miguel está ansioso de retomar sus clases de tennis para ir a ver las plantas, quiere ver si crecieron más y cómo se ven después de este mes que ha pasado desde que estuvimos en la actividad, en más de una ocasión me ha manifestado su preocupación porque pensaba que al estar de vacaciones nadie iba a regar las plantas y se iban a morir, lo que me hizo darme cuenta que habíamos cumplido el propósito que nos habíamos trazado con la actividad.

También aprovechamos el mes de diciembre para hacer una limpieza de los closets de los niños, sacamos todo lo que ya no les servía e hicimos unas 3 bolsas grandes de ropa y zapatos y se las fuimos a llevar a unos niños que siempre están pidiendo dinero cerca de un reconocido centro comercial de nuestra ciudad. Miguel se sorprendió al ver que muchos no tenían zapatos y se alegró de ver la cara iluminada de los niños cuando vieron el contenido de las bolsas, desde ese momento ha estado reflexionando mucho.
Por respeto con la situación de los niños no tomamos fotos de ese encuentro. Miguel cada vez que tenemos planes de salir y pasar por allí me pide que le llevemos algo para comer o cualquier cosa para darles, siento que después de esos momentos en diciembre ha tenido grandes aprendizajes de vida que no los encontraría en los libros de texto de la escuela.
