Buren - I think that it means neighbour in Dutch? At least my efforts to find it out led me to that conclusion. I know, it would be easier if I asked right there, on the spot - Super de Buren, as it was the small Netherlands in Spain that day. I could hear just Dutch around me, but why would I be surprised? Many people from that country live in Spain, in my town too, and additionally, it was a celebration of King’s Day. Delayed, as it was celebrated on Saturday, though in NL it was held on Wednesday. Was this taken in a relaxed Spanish way, that mañana approach can rule for holidays too..? The answer will not come from me, as I don't have it.
Anyway, was it on purpose or not, delay or not, it was a small market and live music in one of the Dutch supermarkets we have here. It had two parts, inside and outside on a small terrace. When I searched for more information about the way how King’s Day is celebrated in The Netherlands, among other things I learned that they like to sell old belongings that day. Is it true, I am again clueless, but what I saw on that market was not second-hand stuff. Or they were, but then in very good, impeccable condition?! There were some crafts and knitted bags and accessories on the terrace, very cool figures, kind of dolls, but otherwise, I think it was not a real flea market.
My visit to that small market was not planned. I dropped off my son at his friend's place and then I had to do the grocery. This supermarket was on the way so I stopped there. But instead of focusing on buying the ingredients for my lunch, I was offered some Dutch sweets there. It was a small bite, made of puff pastry with a sweet filling in the middle. The glaze was orange, as was the icing. Naturally, it had to be of that colour to match the day and the celebration :))
The decoration around was also according to the Dutch colours, a lot of orange balloons, umbrellas, and decorative stripes in blue, white and red. I noticed that people were consuming just water, fizzy drinks and coffee. I was nicely surprised the visitors didn't have a beer, so typical for that day.
There was a singer entertaining the people. He did it well, his voice has good and clean. He also talked to his audience, I didn't understand anything, but you know what? I received a greeting from him! The singer in the orange T-shirt waved with thoughts in his mind:

Once you were on the terrace, you could purchase some interesting crafts, like these dolls. I had to ask the lady who was selling them for more information, about how she did them. But my simple guess is that they have a wire construction inside and all these different fabrics, made with so many details are glued or sewn on the top of them. They were just so sweet! The price? Not cheap, but that work deserves a good reward.
All the dolls were so cute, but my favourite was this musician. In a cool outfit, playing the harmonica. Black curly hair, red shoes, jeans, and a unique jacket. Nice one!
Knitted bags, hats, jewellery, hats, slippers and more dresses were offered on that terrace. As I went for food, buying other stuff was not on my list. Neither I took a seat to have a drink, but the thing is that I didn't see any acquaintances there.
Knitting seems to be a popular activity among Dutch and Norwegian ladies. I remember, my grandma also did it, and she was good at it. She tried to teach me, and at one point I also liked it, but then other things prevailed in my schedule. School, piano... though I don't remember now how to knit, I suppose it would not be that difficult to remember. Also, there are courses one can attend, online courses included. The trick is to have creativity, not just the skill, so I am not sure would I have great success.
So, that is how my unexpected visit to this market happened, where the orange coloured decoration prevailed. Until the next visit, Super de Buren, probably without this King's Day market so I can fully focus just on the thing I actually wanted to obtain - ingredients for the Saturday lunch :))
