I remember the day I had a serious fight with my younger brother. I was 15 years old then and we had gotten into a serious argument. He was my closest sibling (still is) and we shared a lot together. We had a lot of plans we made together. That day, he got me annoyed and our differences became too much for me to bear.
It started over something that wasn't really meant to be a problem. He borrowed an item and refused to return it even after I asked him to. I was watching a TV show that afternoon when he walked in, insisting I changed it as he doesn't watch those kind of shows.
Whatever happened that day. We forgot about the bond we shared and our love for each other. All that mattered was winning the argument and making a point, even though it wasn't needed at that time.
We yelled at each other, causing our cousin to come out to separate us. He slammed the door at me and out of anger, I caught him and used an iron to hit him to the extent that he got injured. Remembering this is making me cringe.
He ran into my cousin's room and that was when my cousin pleaded that we stopped fighting. It was something we hadn't done before and he was really surprised.
After the anger subsided, my aunt called us into her room and made us realize our wrongs. In the heat of the moment, we had forgotten our bonds, and our love for each other. I had hurt him and he had said hurtful words to me. We hurt each other in the process.
We took a time to reflect and began to see things from each other's perspective. We eventually made amends, hugged each other tightly and promised to communicate better to ourselves.
That fight taught us a serious lesson - that siblings squabbles are naturally a part of growing up but resolving them in a calm and matured way was what mattered.
Looking back, I realize that our argument was a step in oue journey towards self expression, and empathy.
We learned to appreciate our individuality, compromise and understand each other's point of view.
As we grew older, our fight became less frequent and our love for each other grew stronger.
In the end, that fight was like a blessing in disguise. It taught us lessons, strengthened our bonds and helped us learn to love each other in a better way. And for that, I am always grateful.
