I have to admit that many of the current generation entering adulthood certainly doesn't seem to have learnt much critical thinking or self sufficiency. Recently my dad (77) was telling us how he stopped and helped a lad and his girlfriend push their broken down car to a safer place off the road. First he noted that he struggled doing that a lot more than he used to 😆 but his main complaint was that nobody else had even bothered to try and help and they'd been there for a while so seemed a bit distressed. He made sure they had help on the way before he left. It took me back to when hubby and I were that age and his car quite often broke down or needed bump starting, so we'd push it to the side of the road or bump it ourselves. I'd get behind and he'd push from his door so he could also steer and jump in when needed. So I was there wondering why on earth they didn't just do something about their predicament themselves instead of feeling sorry for themselves.

I guess there are multiple reasons why they haven't learnt these skill sets as well as we did, from overprotective environments (everything is too risky to be allowed now) to schools mostly rote learning over teaching critical thinking (although some teachers are still good at the latter), to being absorbed in media rather than interacting with others.

I think/hope we still have enough of them who aren't staying 'wet behind the ears' though. I see many of them stopping and saying 'wait a minute, is this really where we want to be heading?'
