I have two boys and there is a big range in their IQ. Boy A is high and the Boy B is low. Who do you think seems to be the most lazy? Boy A always says that he will do something but does not always do it. When it comes to taking notes in class he would rather just listen and when it comes to studying he just skims through the book.
Boy B takes things a lot more seriously. He writes down everything he hears. He underlines the sentences and circles parts in different colors. As soon as he gets home he does his homework and he doesn't stop until it is finished. Boy A is already playing and listening to music but boy B is going over each concept again and again.
Maybe Boy A is not lazy but it seems like it to me. Perhaps this laziness of individuals has brought about invention and smart people have found ways to become even more lazy. Today there are apps for getting food right at your door or for sharing a ride that shows up at the time and place you need it. There are millions of inventions made to suit the needs of lazy people.
I wondered if there is any scientific explanation for this. I found something written in the Journal of Health Psychology:
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1359105314565827?journalCode=hpqa
This is a study of the correlation of physical inactivity and intelligence. Here the premise is that that those who are lazy spend more time inactive and more time thinking so are considered more intelligent. On the other hand those who are more physical become bored easily and need to be preoccupied to escape their thoughts.
The research was done in Florida and I basically think the article is crap. Highly intelligent people can thin even while being physically active. Also the neurotransmitters excreted while exercising increases thought and creativity. Still it is hard to answer deep questions on Analytic geometry while panting for breath after a run.
Not all smart people are lazy and not all lazy people are smart. That's about all there is too it. People learn in different ways. There are exceptionally "lazy" people with great ideas for society. They are stereotyped as overweight scientists eating a hamburger and drinking a cola while hacking the universe. But ideas come from all kinds of people and some people who seem to be lazy are actually quite productive people.
I could use some example like Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk, but I want to look at someone closer to home like @roundbeargames. It seems that he stays at home all the time in his pajamas and orders chicken and bear whenever he feels hungry but he is a genius who works hard. He produces videos almost every day. He codes and teachers others to code. He works with code for 3D gaming that I could only dream of. These people may seem lazy but actually they are doing a huge amount of work while moving only a few inches. They are geniuses.
The important thing is not to make laziness the goal or the master. If laziness is above all else then sloth sets in and you become like the worker for the DMV.
This continued slothness can lead to irresponsibility and the punchlines of many jokes including Homer Simpson so I guess we should be lazy enough just until we can get some good ideas and then work hard to get them done.
Have a great weekend^^
