No one storm proves climate change. Climate models don't necessarily predict more frequent storms, but the warming oceans predict larger storms. Looking at Irma and Harvey side by side with past big storms, the size of these storms become astounding.
Even more astounding is just how fast our climate is changing. Deniers say the climate has always changed, true but never like this. The amount of CO2 has gone up dramatically higher than ever before, and only human factors can explain this rise.
The predictions made in early 2000's was for more intense storms, more heat waves, more droughts. All of this is coming true.
And even if it isn't proof, if there is even a chance that we could make a difference, shouldn't we?
So what can you do? Well, by far the most effective thing is to vote with your wallet. Eat less animal protein. Animal agriculture polluted our atmosphere more than the entire transportation industry, and is not a hard change. The vast majority of our farming produces food for the animals we eat! Huge waste of resources. The billions of animals produce ridiculous amounts of weight as well as CO2 and methane. On top of all that, the number one driver of deforestation is animal agriculture. Each time you don't buy an animal product you vote for a change.
Also, send messages to your congressmen and senators on state and local level. Sure mine are sick of me, but we have to let them know that the public is concerned about climate and we want America back in Climate Accord.
Finally, support green technology. This can be harder because it is expensive. But there are great improvements coming and cheaper green energy coming. Parts of the world already use clean renewable energy as the majority of its power supply.
Anything you can do helps.
