My dear friend Esther visited my city, and we took the opportunity to see each other.

Obviously, a hangout or meeting with a friend is something common, but it is special when you value a person. However, this meeting is somewhat emotional, and I'll tell you why.

Esther and I met at university around 2006, yes, 2006. 19 years have passed since we met and connected so well that, 20 years later, we still love each other like that first day.

She is from another city, and although we only live 2 hours apart, time, obligations, and financial situation have forced us to be physically apart. In fact, I think the last time I saw her was around 2015 and it was just a casual meeting; we never thought so much time would pass since that date.

Mi querida amiga Esther estuvo de visita en mi ciudad y aprovechamos la oportunidad de vernos. Obviamente, una salida o encuentro con una amiga es algo común, pero especial cuando se aprecia a una persona. Sin embargo, este encuentro tiene algo de emotivo y ya les cuento por qué. Esther y yo nos conocimos en la universidad por el año 2006, sí, 2006. Han pasado 19 años desde que nos encontramos y conectamos tan bien que, casi 20 años después, seguimos amándonos como ese primer día. Ella es de otra ciudad y, aunque solo quedamos a 2 horas de distancia, el tiempo, las obligaciones y la situación económica nos han obligado a estar separadas físicamente. De hecho, creo que la última vez que la vi fue por el 2015 y como un encuentro cualquiera; jamás pensamos que pasaría tanto tiempo desde esa fecha.

The truth is that now each of us has very demanding jobs and she is in charge of the human resources department of a company in the region, so her time is very committed.

My friend had to run an errand in my city and had already informed us weeks ago; there are four of us in the group total and three of us live in the city. However, even getting together is sometimes a problem, and we have that as an inside joke, always the eternal promise of "this month we will meet" 😊.

The problem that arose is that Esther was coming to a specific office and had a one-hour appointment. As for me, that day I had training at a company far from the office where she was located and it had to be all day.

Lo cierto es que ahora cada una de nosotras tiene trabajos muy demandantes y ella lleva la parte de recursos humanos de una empresa en la región, así que, su tiempo está muy comprometido. Mi amiga tuvo que hacer una diligencia en mi ciudad y ya nos había avisado semanas atrás; nosotras en el grupo somos 4 en total y tres vivimos en la ciudad. Sin embargo, también reunirnos es un problema a veces, y eso lo tenemos como un chiste interno, siempre la eterna promesa de "este mes sí nos reunimos" 😊. El problema que se presentaba es que Esther venía a una oficina en específico y una hora de cita. Por mi parte, ese día tenía una formación en una empresa lejos de la oficina donde ella se ubicaba y debía ser todo el día.

We, thanks to providence, always maintain that cheerful spirit of facing adversity, the times, and, being in the same city, we set as our goal 'to meet no matter what.' The other 2 girls couldn’t attend, so it seemed disrespectful to me not to attend either.

The whole universe conspired, because at the last moment my training was canceled and I was free at noon to go to the appointment with my friend. Well, it turns out that, knowing how the service is in public offices, I knew everything would take time and there is always a paper to be dealt with. I was not wrong, and the procedures took a few more hours.

That mishap helped me spend an extra hour with my friend, where we forgot that we were older women because we were in such a fit of happiness that everyone would turn to look at us.

Nosotras, gracias a la providencia, siempre mantenemos ese espíritu jovial de luchar con la adversidad, los tiempos y, al estar en la misma ciudad, nos planteamos como norte "reunirnos sí o sí". Las otras 2 chicas no podían asistir, así que me parecía un desplante que yo tampoco asistiera. Todo el universo conspiró, porque a última hora me suspendieron la formación y estaba disponible al mediodía para acudir a la cita con mi amiga. Pues resulta que, yo, sabiendo cómo es la atención en las oficinas públicas, sabía que todo se tardaría y siempre hay un papel por resolver. No me equivoqué y los trámites llevaron unas horas más. Ese percance me ayudó a compartir por una hora más con mi amiga, donde olvidamos que somos unas señoras mayores porque teníamos un escándalo de felicidad que todos volteaban a vernos.

Meeting her was magical, as time didn’t pass. I remember her exactly as she was; it seemed as if I had seen her the day before, but with so much excitement for not seeing her in many years. Fortunately, we have phones to maintain communication; however, nothing replaces physical contact, especially for us, who are very kinesthetic and need closeness to reaffirm affection (things about psychologists 😊).

Although it was just an hour and she was busy representing the worker she had brought, we were able to talk, take some photos (not enough, considering we usually take around 200 and then pick the most important ones), and, as a final surprise, we gave each other some gifts that I love.

The particularity of the gift is that neither of us knew that the other was bringing something, but it was to be expected because we have always had many gifts on special dates, and this indeed was a mega special occasion.

Encontrarme con ella fue mágico, ya que el tiempo no pasó. La recuerdo tal cual; parecía como que la había visto el día anterior, pero con tanta emoción por no verla en muchos años. Afortunadamente, tenemos los teléfonos para mantener la comunicación; sin embargo, nada sustituye el contacto físico, y más nosotras, que somos muy kinestésicas y necesitamos del acercamiento para reafirmar el afecto (cosas de psicólogos 😊).

Aunque fue una hora y ella estaba ocupada en representar al trabajador que había traído, pudimos conversar, tomarnos algunas fotos (no las suficientes, contando que siempre nos tomamos como 200 y de allí sacamos las más importantes) y, como sorpresa final, nos dimos unos detalles que me encantan. La particularidad del detalle es que cada una de nosotras no sabía que la otra traía un regalo, pero era de esperarse porque siempre hemos tenido muchos presentes en fechas especiales, y esta sí era una ocasión mega especial.

As a curious fact, I bought some necklaces with a Turkish eye, not because I believe in this, but because it was what I found to give to all the girls so that we would have something just for us 😉. In this sense, the gift that Esther brought us WAS ALSO TURKISH EYES! This means that in one way or another, we are always connected 😊.

Since everything was brief, we said goodbye with "the promise that in 2026 we will all meet". May it be so! 💗.

Como dato curioso, yo compré unos collares con un ojo turco, no porque crea en esto, sino que fue lo que encontré para obsequiar a todas las chicas y que tuviésemos algo solo de nosotras 😉. En este sentido, el regalo que nos trajo Esther ¡TAMBIÉN ERAN UNOS OJOS TURCOS! Esto significa que de alguna manera u otra, siempre estamos conectadas 😊.
