Weekend Experiences - Celebrating An Anniversary With My Wife

This weekend was special for me, as my wife and I celebrated our anniversary. Luckily for us, there was an event in Slovenia called Restaurant Week. The best Slovenian restaurants take part in the campaign and offer special menus to Restaurant Week visitors at a special price, which is usually much lower than the usual price in these restaurants. The food must meet the criteria of top quality, and the fixed price is the same for all, representing the best balance between high quality and a friendly price. There is a saying that no opportunity is ever wasted, so my wife and I took a part of this unique experience and had a great Saturday lunch.

Among all the 108 nice restaurants involved in this event, we decided to go with the restaurant Podfarovz from the Vipava Valley. Probably the location itself was the reason for this decision, or maybe it was the fact that we have eaten here before and we know that the dishes are simply yummy.

The restaurant is located in the town of Vipava, in the very centre, right next to one of the seven the springs of the Vipava River. Podfarovz is known for its culinary specialities of the Vipava Valley, based on traditional recipes, with a touch of modernity in the preparation and presentation. Ingredients are local to the greatest extent. The tasty dishes are accompanied by a selection of fine local wines.

We both decided for a three-course fish menu, because the meat menu wasn't to our taste. For a cold starter we were served marinated trout tartar, tuna sashimi sprinkle of charred hay and nori seaweed, warm dashi broth, radicchio and apple.

Then came the warm starter, the mediterranean scallop with lardo, smoked celery cream, passion fruit caviar and pear. In my opinion, the best plate of today's lunch.

For the main course we were served baked zander fillet with pistachio, fish demi glace, cauliflower puree and roasted cauliflower. My wife and I were so involved in the conversation that I forgot to take a picture of my plate and remembered it when I was almost at the end of the dish 😬.

In my opinion, every great lunch should end with a great dessert. Otherwise, lunch is not complete. Dessert was not included in the menu, so we ordered it extra. Who can resist a slightly different tiramisu with pistachio and marinated citrus? We certainly don't 😁.

Celebrating an anniversary is an occasion to be cherished and for which time should be taken. Whether it's your first anniversary or your fiftieth. It doesn't have to be fancy, just a little attention is needed! And time spent together, that's what's important. Together you create memories that will last a lifetime.
