Let’s proceed our trip into Wroclaw with the gastronomical part. With some pictures I will try to show you the typical Polish dishes I appreciated the most, why and if I had already tasted them somewhere else in our previous journey.
Do not mislead us, Mary here writing 😉 I know Mike is preparing a technical analysis of the crypto market you will see in the coming days!
The first day, the 31st December, after waking up at 4am to get the plane from Bologna, we arrived in Wroclaw and we were hungry like we could eat whatever in one bite. So the first stop was in a “Potato restaurant” that proposed all potato-based dishes. We are not used to eat meat so when we can, we avoid it and so we did.
Here the table decoration and the first picture, a potato salad with herring. That was astonishing!
In the afternoon we could not avoid all the aligned cafeterias in Rynek and we chose the cosiest one. The guys next to our table grabbed a chessboard and started playing chess while having their coffee and chocolate. I really felt home seeing that, since this kind of socialization are not really used in Italy but I think they’re a great way to keep guys there, talking, chatting and avoiding smartphones!
Mike could not miss his “Americano Coffee” and I tried a Banocoffee cake, with banana and coffee! Great!
Ottimo!
In the evening we had the Eve’s dinner and that has been really challenging. Amazing foods but in a quantity we could easily eat in 4. We both hate food disposal so we tried to eat as much as we could but honestly, we asked for a bag and brought some food for the day after. Saving food for us is a form of respect.
Let’s start from the beginning with the appetizers. Pickled cucumbers, some raw meat and fish which I did not like but Mike appreciated a lot, different sauces, some mushrooms and some particular fat they prepare fumed. The opening was super!
These are the “Pierogi”, stuffed dumplings in different broths: the first a traditional broth with mushroom Pierogi and the second beetroot broth with cabbage Pierogi.
So yummy and particular!
Then, also fried Pierogi, that were the same dumplings that were fried instead of stuffed. The following were with some bitter-sweet onion on top and they were filled with fish. They were not really a light dish but supa-dupa tasty! We loved them and I had to stay awake because Mike tried to steal one Pierogi from my dish! But maybe the Dwarves’ spirit prevented him from doing it since it slipped from his fork 🤣🤣
And the following, oh my gosh, they were mushrooms in cheese cream. I do not like Cheese but I started being jealous because I felt Mike almost fell in love with them :D So I think they were really great too!
Then second courses came in. They were made of meat. A said we do not eat meat except for the cases where it’s a traditional dish so we eat it once because it’s always fare to taste traditions with no prejudices.
Here some beef with stuffed potatoes with rosemary and bacon.
And here pork knuckle with roasted potatoes.
To end up, an amazing dessert made of apple cake with almonds and cream.
That was all the Eve’s dinner. You can understand that it was quite a lot, since our alimentary plan during the week is quite regular and all made of vegetables, cereals and legumes. Some fish, sometimes. But in more article I will tell you more about how we eat and why, since Mike has brought me deep into a health diet so we are quite aware of what we eat now.
Here then, from another dinner, traditional Polish Gnocchi. Since Gnocchi are also a traditional dish from Italy and Verona has a strong tradition about them, we tried them. Cream and garlic sauce on top, beetroot aside, and a lot of Gnocchi. Very nice and tasty!
Molto buoni e gustosi!
And here, the last picture of Polish dishes (for this trip).
This was a dessert, and was a honey-cheesecake. We ate it in a nice and cosy restaurant from the centre of Wroclaw and we have been very happy with it!
It’s very similar to the Italian “Millefoglie” that I will tell you about it one day. Maybe :D
That’s it for the Polish food tour! I will start preparing the Dwarves article now 😉
Mary
Ora inizierò a preparare l'articolo sui Nani 😉
