It's finally tomorrow, I'm really excited to be traveling to Abuja to see my lover, I somehow hope tonight wouldn't be long, the 5 weeks we spent apart was long enough.
Morning came quickly and for the first time, I wasn't upset at the sound of my alarm. It is 5:00 AM in the morning, I quickly said my morning prayers and ran to the bathroom, thinking of his mascular arm around me I brushed my teeth with a very broad smile, I ran into the shower almost, "ouch, the water is too hot but guess what is hotter? my man," I smiled at the naughty thoughts in my head, I hope I don't go crazy before I reach Abuja.
I ran out of the shower after a very short bath like I was in a marathon race, in less than 10 minutes I was dressed up already. The time is 5:40 AM and my bus leaves at 6:30 AM, I wonder why my Keke man isn't here yet. I heard a horn, it was him, I happily rolled my small box out of the room, locked the door and went into the tricycle.
"Good morning oga, thank you for coming early," he didn't answer me, I could tell he was still very sleepy. We got to the park at 6:10 PM, I grinned from ear to ear as I climbed into the bus, we soon got loaded and left. It was already 6:50 AM before our car left, It was a 10 hour journey so I was sure to be in Abuja a little minutes past or before 4:50 PM.
I woke up to people shouting loudly, I sleep off quite easily whenever I'm going on a long journey but waking up this times was different, my co-passengers looked like they had seen a ghost, our bus had parked and the environment was filled with buses and no car was passing by, I was shocked, what had happened? I soon saw masked men with guns, I felt my fear growing as they ordered us out of the bus.
We were lying faced down on the floor as they searched our pockets and took all our phones. They brought out bags from the bus and whoever owned it was to standup and give them whatever valuables they had in the bag. My morning excitement had vanished, all I could feel now was my growing anxiety and hot tears forming in my eyes, I needed to get out of this situation. It got to my turn to takeout the valuables I had, all I had was the little money I needed to eat with through my journey and an emergency money I hid under my box.
It wasn't until I reached out to my open the zip under that I felt something, it was my wrist watch, a gift I received from my lover on my last birthday, I had put it under my box a few days ago. My heartbeat was as loud a battle drum as I slipped the watch out from my box and into my pocket, I removed the money immediately and handed it over to them before they pushed me down to the ground.
My hand fought desperately with my heart as I tried to use the watch, I knew one wrong move could cost me my life. I first pressed the emergency button then enabled my location, I wondered if it would work because I had never used this feature before on any device. What was about an hour seemed like 20 hours when I heard the sirens, it was the police, I sighed in a deep relief.
I could sense how furious the robbers felt but they didn't have time to stick around and show their anger, they soon ran into the bush and away from our sight, few of the police men chased after them. We were packing our things when one of the police men asked "who is Ade?" I went up to him, "I am Ade" I said. With a smile he held my hands and said "well done Ade, you saved the day".
