Hello Hivers, I hope your day is going well.
Today, I went over to a friend's place, after a while I looked over to the door leading to the bathroom and what I saw next made me jump and I started to panic, my eyes became teary instantly and breathing became really difficult. My friend in confusion asked what the issue was, it took a while before I could utter the word "spider", it's on the bathroom door. I could tell he found the situation funny but he went over and killed the spider, I was uncomfortable for the rest of my stay.
As someone who has had arachnophobia for most of my adult life, I have usually found myself in very embarrassing situations where I had to explain why I find spiders very scary and as illogical as it usually sounds to them, it is something beyond my control. I've seen many people who hate spiders but hating spiders isn't the same as having phobias for them.
I've been in situations where I had to leave my house for hours because I saw a spider and had no one to get rid of it and I start to feel very uncomfortable even at the thoughts of the possiblity of a spider being around, even a reality picture of a spider is enough to make me panic and feel spider crawls on my body for a long period of time.
For people with Arachnophobia like myself, spiders become a potential threat to our lives whenever we come in contact with them and there is nothing that can change that feeling at that point. The adrenaline always triggers a flight rather than a fight response and I usually end up asking myself why I couldn't get rid of the damn thing rather than run like a coward being well aware that the spider is probably more scared of me than I am of it but it seems that logic hides under my shoes whenever I see spiders.
Arachnophobia is using the picture of a toy spider because I'm too scared to use the picture of an actual spider.
Do I want to get rid of this intensely illogical fear for spiders? Yes. Can I? No, it seems very much impossible.
Thank you for reading.
